Nap time screaming

My little girl has always been a good sleeper, taking long naps and sleeping 12 hours since 3 months old. Lately, starting right around 9 months, she started screaming every time I lay her down for her nap. She doesn't cry at night when we put her down, only at nap time. I know she is tired because she will rub her eyes and will lay her head down on the ground when she's crawling around. I've tried laying her down earlier so she's not over-tired. I've tried keeping her up longer between naps to make sure she is tired. I've tried checking on her and rocking her and giving her an extra bottle or ibuprofen. Nothing seems to work. I hate letting her scream until she falls asleep but I guess that's all I can do. I just wonder if this is normal around 9/10 months?

Re: Nap time screaming

  • I have read somewhere that at nine months babies will wake up during naps/night time and just cry for no reason other than the fact that they know you will come.  My DS did this a couple times in the past month and all he wanted to do was be held.

As far as naps, my mom is DS' day care provider and she said that for his naps he will always cry like a nut.  I think he's just throwing a fit.

The minute I notice DS is getting a little tired he goes right up.  I also have a heater in his room (it's pretty chilly in MD right now) and that seems to help.

  • Babies will go through a sleep regression anytime between 8-10 months. Combined with separation anxiety this has lead to some hellish nights at our house. We just found that waiting it out was the only thing that really worked.
