Is ring bologna and salami considered lunch meat?

Like the kind that you eat with crackers and cheese?  This sounds like a stupid question even as I'm asking it, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.  I have the biggest craving for crackers, cheese bologna right now!  All I want to do is leave work, pick some up at the store, go home and put on my sweats and eat.  ::sigh:: Techinically I'm supposed to be at work for another 4.5 hours.  I doubt that's going to happen!

Just wondered if I was supposed to steam it first or if I'm ok...

Re: Is ring bologna and salami considered lunch meat?

  • According to the BabyCenter's article, "Foods to Avoid during the Holidays", yes, they count those meats as no-go's for preggos.  (sorry about the use of preggos, I couldn't resist since it ryhmes).

  • Hi!!  Normally I see you over at the D&R board.

Yes, both are considered lunchmeat.  Granted my midwife says you can still eat lunchmeat (not as often) from your grocery store's deli counter.  Because they pay attention to the shelf life of those items and they are refrigerated.  Basically you shouldn't eat meat that has a longer shelf life than cheese.

  • There is a infinitesimally small chance of you have any issues. Like, so minute that I've never in my years on these boards heard of one person having an issue, or a friend of a friend of a cousin having an issue.

Yes, it's a lunchmeat. Yes, you could technically steam it although the idea makes me want to puke. Are thousands and thousand of pregnant women eating turkey sandwiches and surviving? Yes.

It just depends how paranoid you want to be about it.

  • You can't eat bologna or salami, or any other kind of lunchmeat AT ALL.  Please don't put your baby at risk.  This is not a laughing matter.  We at 1st tri are here to help, please feel free to ask us if anything else is safe or not, we can help you!

Other no-no's...nail polish, hair dye, cow's milk, soft cheese, including nacho cheese, unwashed and unheated produce, treadmills.  And wheat bread in moderation only. Please be careful.

     I love you Jen..

  • Also, please stand 10 feet away from any running microwaves, tvs, or other electronic equipment.  You should probably invest in a larger monitor.

I think you are joking...but I can't read your sarcasm..I am kind of dense, but if you are serious about the treadmill? Tell me...

Also, what is everyone's take on soft cheeses that are pasteurized? I LOVE ALL CHEESE! and Salami, but I am giving up lunch meat...and soft cheeses. I am still undecided about hair dye and nail polish, thoughts????

  • Brooke, I don't joke.  Like I said, your baby's health is NOT a laughing matter.

Treadmills are very dangerous for pregnant women.  I'm shocked your Dr didn't tell you this.  What if you fell down??  Even if the cheese is pasteurized, DON'T EAT IT!  It's still "soft cheese" right??  Seriously.

Hair dye is so bad for pregnant women.  So is nail polish.  Please, I caution you, do some research on this.  Google is your friend.

    Any other questions?

    Jen, Thanks for your response!!!

I have not been to the Dr. Yet, but I do walk on the treadmill...hadn't run into that tip with any of my books/websites..I will ask my Dr though thanks.

  • Just to confirm the hair dye thing, I called the Dr.'s office this morning b/c I had a hair appt. that I had forgotten about scheduled for Friday.  I asked what the verdict was on hair color and she told me DO NOT use hair color during the first 14 wks, and after that it's slightly safer, but probably won't stick to your hair (or process the same) as when you were pre-pg.

    Just an FYI.

  • I still think you all are joking!!) Funny clips though...Geeked
  • Brooke, when you make it to 2nd tri this stuff is joked about.  It is far too serious in first tri to make fun of.  There are women here who have suffered miscarriages, etc, because of ignoring this advice.

  • Brooke, I wouldn't joke about something so serious.

What kind of person do you think I am? Surprise

  • Okay Jen and Chaos. I was just confused by the clips...I will be careful, I am not taking anything lightly AT ALL! I just thought exercize was good for you and I have a treadmill...Okay, Sorry for not undersatnding...
  • Oh, you definitely need to exercise, you just need to be careful about what you do.  Glad to see you're being careful!

  • I eat salami-no issues.

My dr said it was completely safe to dye your hair during anytime in the pregnancy.

I would say ask your dr!

  • Wow, I must be a bad Mom to be or something, because I eat what I want... drink what I want.. except I try and stay away from caffeine and I don't drink AT ALL... but I did the CAREFUL thing the first time I was pregnant, and it ended in a m/c. Women have been having babies for eons and they still had healthy normal babies... :: shrug :: idk, like I said maybe I'm horrible for wanting to eat what I want to/can eat.

  • If they aren't lunch meat, what would you call it? It's not a vegetable.
