3rd Trimester

Waxing?

I'm wondering if any of you did/are planning to go for a bikini wax before your due date? I didn't with #1 but am considering "tidying up" before a bunch of nurses/drs are in my business. Is this a good idea or no?

Re: Waxing?

  • I am going to ask DH to clean me up since I can't see a thing down there anymore lol. Nothing special but trimming up what I can't see/reach very well. I'll shave my own bikini line.

He did it last time and it made me feel alot better.

  • Nope, but I'm an au natural girl to begin with.

  • I've thought about it. But I would say that it's alot more painful when your prego because of the extra sensitivity and circulation in that area.

I dont trust anyone else to tidy me up. So I just use a mirror and take my time. Most of the time the mirror is just for reassurance. You can feel the difference. If it gets bad for me, I use a trimmer first, then shave.

  • I'm not.  I couldn't wax my bikini because I'm afraid of the pain down there (a little ironic, eh?).  I told DH he is going to have to electric trim me up start at 36 weeks (when the doc starts doing internal exams at my appts) and then do a another round closer to 40.  He keeps joking that he is going to do a design in there.  Sadly I wouldn't even know if he did.

  • Definitely going the whole 9 yards so to speak. I began getting brazilians be for conception to build up a tolerance, since a friend had told me it is much more painful when your pregnant. It takes about 6 weeks for mine to grow back so I am going into my spa next week.

Also I have had 2 brazilians while preggers and the spa uses a topical spray to help numb the area be for the hard wax is applied. Don't go to a hole in the wall or nail spa... make sure you get a certified aesthetician ladies. Make sure the place you visit uses hard and soft wax (one that grabs only the hair and the other for the stragglers).

  • I am completely bare down there, and have been keeping up with it since the start. It takes me a long time, but since the end is near, I try to keep it maintained.

  • I've been waxing and have my last appt before due date this Thursday. It's more painful the further along I am, but the girl I go to goes extremely fast, and she'll do a bikini instead of brazilian if it's too difficult for me.

  • Yes, I get brazilian regularly.  I don't like hair down there at all.

  • I asked the same question a while ago, but it's hard to find a good place to do the waxing where I live since I have a lot of hair...I'm German so I have hair where not too many women do. I bought the Sally Hansen Wax Strips for the body...you rub them in between your hands to warm them up and then you apply them...I ripped some hair off and it didn't even hurt! So if you don't want to go to the salon, but do want to try it, that's an option!

  • I got a brazilian about two weeks ago in time for delivery and yes it did hurt even though ive gotten them plenty of times. First time during the pregnancy though. I just felt like it would be much easier to take care of the area if i got waxed, my girlfriends agreed. I wouldnt want to deal with post shaving aftergrowth after delivering a baby. This is assuming i deliver vaginally.

Besides, being waxed down there just feels so much cleaner

  • I am waxing in about a week then I will let it grown until like 39 weeks and I will wax then.  I actually can see and reach still but would rather no hair or hassle while healing.

This is me. I haven't noticed a significant increase in sensitivity (exception being 1st tri) and actually just did it a few days ago. I guess I will do it once more, either by myself (although I don't think I'll be able to in a few more weeks) or at a salon, before I go into labor. I really hate feeling all fuzzy, so waxing is def worth it to me. In fact, I think I will appreciate it that much more when I'm going through recovery!

    This.

I can't stand the thought of being completely bare...makes me feel like a pre-pubescent girl (not judging anyone who goes bare, just my own personal preference).  Plus, a little bit of hair serves a purpose, to provide a barrier preventing bacteria from getting into your system.  So leaving a bit can be a good thing.

  • When you poop on the delivery table, they are all really thinking 'Thank God she trimmed!' Hhahahahahha. I was worried about it with DS #1, but now that I've been there done that, and had my sister tell me she thinks I have hemorrhoids, I'm not so concerned anymore =) I try to trim up, but I probably do more harm than good ;-)

  • I get a Brazilian every six weeks and have continued to do so throughout my pregnancy.

  • Although I am no wimp when it comes to waxing I wasn't planning on doing any tidying up since I mostly do this for tropical locales. I also don't tend to have a lot of issues with body hair, and my husband doesn't care one way or another (and no, I'm not just deluding myself he seems to like things changed up occasionally). I ended up having a wax earlier in the pregnancy since I though we would be traveling and I can't see a darn thing down there, but I don't know if I'll continue maintenance since it's not a huge issue for me.

Just a perspective from a nurse who has done labor and delivery. Hair is there for a reason, mostly to prevent vaginal infections which can get much worse while pregnant. Vaginal infections in pregnancy can cause premature labor and contractions. We even see patients that get MRSA from waxing. This is really serious and in one instance recently a MRSA waxing infection resulted in amputation (no joke). If you wax or shave just make sure you are thinking about preventing infections ahead of whether or not things "look nice."

When I was on labor and delivery I tried to be non-judgmental about any types of decisions related to perineal hygiene -it's really hard to see that part when you're pregnant! I do have to admit that the thought of delivering with hair removal related bumps made me cringe. I think having hair during delivery is perfectly natural.

From a non-sexual perspective the hair does protect your most intimate parts from prying eyes that aren't going to need to be down there to insert a tube or watch while you push out your baby. I felt that I might want to leave myself not bare, because often people aren't as sensitive to keeping your parts private only for the people that need to see it. I don't have a problem with my mom witnessing pubic hair, but I wouldn't want her to be forced to see things only my husband has seen.

I'm an esthetician. More specifically, a speed waxer. I wax 7 hours a day, 4 days a week. So, here are a few pointers. First, please double check that the "numbing spray" they use is safe for pregnancy. The only real products that can be used are a benzocain or lydicain (or something along those lines). A lot of places claim they're using something to numb you, but it's crap. Plus, it takes betwee 15-25 minutes for the numbing product to take effect, so if they're just spraying you right before you wax, then you aren't numb for the procedure. Please be careful with those numbing products, if it's an actual medical numbing cream, you can overdose on it.

DO NOT go to a place that double dips the same stick into the wax pot multiple times. The heat of the wax doesn't kill the bacteria that could come from the previous person, it gives it a place to breed. This is how some people get MRSA and other infections. It's not from the actual wax or from being waxed, it's from the lack of sanitation from the place you go to. Do NOT let the waxer blow on the stick to cool the wax down. Whatever germs she has, is now on the wax that is being applied to your open skin. Make sure the waxer is wearing gloves NO acceptions.

Waxing is more painful during pregnancy because of all the extra blood flow to the area. We've had pregnant women come in on their due date to get a bikini or brazilian wax so it's do able, it just hurts like a mofo. I've actually been counting down the weeks of my pregnancy with my waxing schedule. I'll get waxed this week when I hit 30w and I figured I can probably get in one more wax at 34w, it's just how my mind works.
