preference between Moby and K'tan?

I tried the Moby with DS #1 and I really struggled with putting it on, and this feeling that there was a ton of crazy fabric around me. I just heard about the K'tan and I am debating getting this for #2. Has anyonje tried both? What are your feelings about the K'tan? Pros and Cons? Or do I just watch a ton of youtube videos and focus on trying the Moby again?

Re: preference between Moby and K'tan?

  • My BFF swears by the K'tan, but it is NMS. I think it is hard to get a good fit since it is a pre-sized thing. Wrapping (like with a Moby) is like tying your shoes...it takes some serious effort to learn, but once you've got it down it becomes second nature. Both are stretchy, so both will max out in comfort at about 15 lbs. If you plan to wear baby longer than that, I would put the money you would spend on a K'tan toward a carrier that will work longer--like a woven wrap, a mai tai, a soft-structured carrier (Beco, Ergo, etc.). If you like the idea of wrapping but felt like the Moby was too much fabric, try a woven wrap, which come in different lengths. If you have a babywearing group near you, they may have a library of carriers that you could try.

  • I also didn't like how hard it was to get a good fit with the k tan. I much preferred the ring sling, which had a bit of a learning curve but after a week was easy to use, and more adjustable than the k tan
  • I just bought the moby and LOVE it so far! We also have a Bjorn--but I read that we shouldn't use it because it can cause hip issues. (I assume it's just if we use it too early. I love that I can keep her in fetal position in the Moby. I did look at the K'tan, but couldn't figure out how to put it on, and keep her in. WIth the Moby I feel that she is very secure in it, becuase I regulate how tight everything is, as opposed to it being pre-sized.
  • It is all personal preference...I love my K'tan; and as you can see by my siggy DD is less than 2 weeks old - and she weighs roughly 5.5 lbs...and I have had no problem getting her in the K'tan and wearing her around.

She is a squirmer and loves to 'scootch' down when swaddled, so the K'tan is helping with those things.

  • I also really liked my K'tan when my lo was new. I just felt more secure than I did with any of my other slings and wraps. We used the ergo at that stage as well.
