C-sections

Pooping issues (TMI)

So I am hoping (for everyone else's sake) that no one has had an experience quite as horrible as mine.... but perhaps someone could relate on a different level.

I had a cs seven weeks ago.. since I got up and walked from day 2 (ouch) I had a relatively speedy recovery, minus this one issue. It hasn't seemed consistent until now-- I have had it the past two nights at 12 AM on the dot. Essentially what it feels like is a huge gas and/or poop bubble at the top of my ribs (right below my chest). I get pain that radiates from that area, so much so that I feel it in my breasts. I can push and push (tried so for almost two hours) but I can't even get a FART out. There is just no relief and the pain is equivalent to labor pains (which I know all about, since I was in labor for 16 hours before my c/s). My poor DH came into the bathroom to find me squatting in the tub, shower on, holding onto the sides and pushing hard as I could. He probably thought the doctors screwed up and I was having another baby right then! At one point I did poop... but it was literally a sliver less than an inch long (TMI, I know)..... so has anyone had this/know what causes this? I do plan on calling my OB but I'm in between insurance companies so I try to avoid going to the doc unless absolutely necessary.

Re: Pooping issues (TMI)

  • Oh and I have pooped before so it just seems kinda random this is happening. Last night it stopped almost as suddenly as it started- w/ no relief (farting or pooping).

LOL I'm tempted to count how many times I said fart or poop in this post

  • Are you still taking stool softners? Def keep taking those and increase your fiber. It can take a while for things to get moving like normal again.

  • Drink lots of water too! Maybe even knock back some prune juice if you can stomach it. Are you healed up enough to do some yoga? All the twisting can help move things along.

Hope you find some relief soon!

  • Getting regular again after a c section is difficult.  I will say I had galbladder problems after my first which was pain up under my ribs.  I'd advise you to keep taking stool softeners and lots of water.  Good luck.

  • Lots of water and stool softeners. If that doesn't give you any relief I would put a call in to your dr.

  • It took a LOOOONG time for things to get back to normal in that department for me after my c/s.  Keep taking stool softeners, eating fiber and drinking a lot.

  • I had the most horrific constipation and gas problems/pain after my C, I only became regular again at about 5 wks after. What helped was taking 3 colace every single night, fiber bars and miralax to move things along. I hope you feel better soon

  • It sounds like gas/constipation that is causing muscle spasms. I had awful gas pains for a really long time after my c/s. colace, don't skip a day! And lots and lots of water as PPs have said

  • In addition to what others have said, try not to push so hard. I know the pain you describe and the best thing you can do is to try to relax through it. Breathe deeply and relax. You can give yourself hemorroids if you push too much and that won't help matters. Feel better soon.

    This.

I took Dulcolax for about six months, I also got hemorhoids (sorry if TMI), I got them from the 2.5 hours of pushing I had to do (birth ended up being c-section too when all was said and done). I asked my Dr about it and she said that with Dulcolax your body becomes dependant on it to go #2 so she recommended Miralax, it's much better. Hope it helps!
