Babywearing OK for naptime?

Hello ladies! I've posted here only a few times - i lurk more than post hehe

quick question: My 13month  old has a hard time napping with me (I work fulltime) but i've noticed when I wear him (back carry) and start doing chores he knocks out! I can wear him for upto 2hrs I'm just concerned this may be bad for his back...thoughts?

If he's slouched you may need to get the slack out of the mei tai.  Once he's settled in, do a little hop/bounch while pulling on the straps.  Sometimes it helps if you do this tightening move while pulling the straps straight up into the air...THEN bring the straps over your shoulders for tying.

Doing that little move will help him get settled into the bottom of the carrier and pulled in closer to you.  Also, the top of the carrier may end up going high enough to better-support his head.

For head support you could also consider a mei tai with a hood or a head rest.

Oh!  And FWIW, this drive me BANANAS about my DD.  She naps wonderfully at daycare!  One Saturday I asked myself out of frustration:  "What do I have to do to get her to nap?  Buy 8 cots and invite her 7 classmate over?  Sheesh!"

Ha! Exactly! P lays down on a mat and sleeps 12-2:15 every Wednesday and Friday at daycare. I tried to lay him on a mat with his paci at home to see if he would just fall asleep. He looked at me like I had lost my mind...

  • Daycare is soo crazy for LO's so they burn tons of energy, probably way more than they could burn at home no matter how hard anyone tries. As to the carrier, I know my god-sister slept a-okay with no damage many times on my back. Kids are super flexible and durable. That is what makes them amazing (among everything else).

My LO definitely still needs the nap...even at home  She simply won't settle down at home to take one.  However, as soon as I put her in the car to run an errand she's out like a light.  It's so frustrating!
