Poop + BLW Solids + Constipation?

We've been exploring solids since 6 months but LO is suddenly getting it and eating a lot. Her last few poop diapers have been significantly different than her EBF poops that up until now have been quite runny. Things are starting to get "thicker" but no way close to being able to roll it in the toilet. She is also only going every few days now and it's a large amount of mushy poop when she goes.

Is this just her body finally digesting her solids better? Can she be constipated if it's still mushy like that? Is it normal to switch from going a couple times a day to only every couple/few days at this stage? TIA.

  • Chloe went from pooping everyday to pooping every other day.  After about a week or so of that she went back to pooping every day.  And it is a "thick" poop.

  • Yes solids = different poop. They aren't constipated unless they are having super hard poops, according to our pediatrician. Baby boy only poops every three days now but when he does there is a LOT.

Oh yeah... might be reconsidering the cloth diaper option - yikes! Wink

We just use a diaper sprayer. Gets everything clean and unscary. LO's poops are about every other day and definitely thicker. I wonder sometimes if he's constipated, but so far so good.

  • Yep, Liam's poop has started to change. Every few poops, I'll get one that I can roll into the toilet, but most times, it's just a massive disaster of an in-between bf/blw poop. Also, Liam has started going every other day but has gone up to 5 days before without pooping. I'm not a fan of this stage, but I do get excited when I get a "plop-able" poop :)

Glad I am not alone here and I was wondering how/if it related to the BLW because her puree eating friends have been plopable for awhile ... mine is still a hot mess! Looking forward to it firming up a little and going back to a bit more regularity. It's been since Thursday morning so I'm terrified what I'll see when she finally goes!! Tongue Tied

  • That's normal for any baby on solids. Some solid foods make worse poops than others.
