Doesn't hurt. I read about it and was turned off by the booty part, but no speculum, and the booty part is a tiny little wipe like hen you potty. Totally easy and painless, just or hose of u wondering
Yup, this was my experience, too -- no speculum at all, just a couple quick swipes with a swab. I think the whole thing took 15 seconds, once I was in position, if we include the OB getting the swab out of the sterile container?

I really don't get why they don't let you guys do this yourselves. My midwife explained to me what I was supposed to do, gave me a big q-tip thing and let me do it myself in the bathroom.
My doctor swabbed from the front, down into the vagina for a count of 10 and then she was done. There is no speculum involved and the swab is just like a Q-Tip on a longer stick.
