How do I fry jalapenos without making a huge clump?

How do I get them to come out as individual bites?  I dipped them in batter, then tossed in flour, and fried, and now I have a huge ball of fried batter/jalapeno.  Secrets?

    You have to drop them in one at a time and work in batches. Keep the previous batches warm in the oven set as low as it will go.
