Military Families

I would like to join you...

...if that is ok. We are not exactly military but are currently a foreign service family. DH is also a former Marine and war veteran. The foreign service is differnt but after lurking a bit - our lifestyles clearly have a lot in common. We just put in two years posted in a developing country, are home for less than a year and head back out out to a different developing country this summer. Our arrival dates are being jerked around, I am trying to figure out how it will all work with a new baby, etc. etc. Anyway, I am hoping to hang here a bit as few "civilians" get it - ya know?

My family is a Foreign Service family. Families like mine are posted in every corner of the globe. We live our lives away from family, friends and the conviences and comforts of home. We often live and work in dangerous places among those that misunderstand our intentions and purposes. Sometimes members of our ranks sacrifice our lives to further diplomacy.  Please remember that we serve too. And I'm always open to questions.

Re: I would like to join you...

  • Welcome, love! I think you'll fit in just fine....being overseas is tough regardless of what cause you're involved in. Distance is distance, regardless of who or what sent your family to an overseas post.

    Glad you found us !

  • If you ever want to pop in on Military Nesties, I personally would love to have you. I'm a Giants fan who hopes to end up in foreign service. :)

Was YH MSG at any point?

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.

Yup. Sure was. He served MSG in Sudan and Greece after Desert Storm. I make it my mission to try and take care of those soldiers when we are at post - feed them home cooked food, etc especially at the holidays. Let me know if you have any questions about the FS life or process to get in. Both DH and I are specialists.

    Thanks!

I have a lot of friends who were MSG, and I'm an MC Officer Applicant (with future ambition in FS). H is enlisted MC, and we're hoping that if my application fails, he can try for MSG as a Det Co. I think it's great that you adopt the Marines and other service members stationed with you. I know my buddies appreciated that a ton!
