Need input re: diaper rash

My 18 month old has had diaper rash for 2-3 days.  He almost never gets it.  His skin just doesn't seem to be that sensitive.  I can't think of anything in particular he has been eating lately that would be in his poop that would bother his skin.  I have noticed during this time that he is pooping a bit more frequently and his poop is definitely thinner/softer.  Unfortunately he now has two sores on his bum, one on each cheek, that are open.  I've seen it here before but can't remember - what do I apply on them or soak him in to help those go away?  I feel so bad, poor guy doesn't like having his diaper changed because of this rash/sore situation.   I don't want to use my usual Desitin Creamy because I think it just stings and isn't solving the problem.

Do you think this could be teething?  He has 12 teeth and is waiting on his eyeteeth and some molars (but those are later I think).  Or getting sick?  (his older brother has a cold)  Or something in his diet?

It's just weird that it's not going away and the soft poop is continuing... :(

  • It's probably teething.  DS sometimes has a couple days of diahrhea that just goes away.  I would just push fluids, maybe offer pedialyte, give some naked time and Triple Paste is the BEST.  It might sting a bit but I think it will help to get rid of the rash.  Target sells it... it comes in a jar with screw-on lid.  Nothing beats it, I swear.

Maybe offer the BRAT diet for a couple of days just to eliminate your wonder about it being something in his diet?

  • LO had a bad diaper rash before and we added cornstarch to the bath and it cleared it right up. I also tried probably every diaper cream out there and Aveeno was the winner for us. GL!
  • egg whites.

my DD has a horrible diaper rash right now and my mom said that when I was little the dr. said to put egg whites on the butt and then use a hair dryer to dry it. The egg white seals the sores and acts as a barrier. So far it's working!
