On Sunday some of you may remember that I posted "I give up". I wrote this post about 8:30 am letting everyone know that I gave up on hoping stripping my membranes did any thing. I gave up and was willing to except that Bearen was going to take FOREVER to come out.
Well...
At 11:00 am DH was out chopping wood and I got up to let the dog out. I was watching her out the window and I thought I all of a sudden tinkled on myself. I went to the bathroom and nothing came out. I came back down and called DH inside. I told him I think I better call, I wasn't sure if I peed on myself or if my water was leeking. He told me I better call just in case. L&D told me to come on in so they could test and see if I was leaking amniotic fluid. All the way to the hospital (35 min) I didn't feel any leaking. Alls I could think was "I'm gonna feel like an idiot if I peed on myself". We pulled in the parking lot and started walking in. I couldn't stop laughing because I was "peeing" all over myself all the way in. The people walking in behind me had to of thought I was crazy because I was laughing and holding my crotch the entire time.
We made it up to L&D and they had me change into a gown. The nurse tested the fluid on that had leaked on the pad and it tested positive for amniotic fluid... BUT there was also old blood from my membranes being stripped on Friday. If there is old blood or new blood the test could have false results. The doc came in and said they would have to test inside me. That test came back positive as well BUT there was still some blood. The doc said she was positive it was fluid by my story. She said she could let me walk around for a while and see what happens or she could pop my sac the rest of the way and start me on pitocin. I told her to pop away and lets get this party started!
I was 3 cm and 50% effaced when she broke my water the rest of the way. I was on pitocin for an hour before things started to really hurt. I asked the nurse when I could get the "walking epidural" and she said I would have to be at least 5 cm. She didn't think would be that far along yet but she said she could check. When she checked I was a 6. They called up the doc to get my pain meds going and it took about 10 min. for him to get everything done. About 2 minutes after he was done the nurse started telling me to lay on my side, then she said flip to the other side, then it was get on all fours. I didn't really know what was going on... She called my doc in and they both said the babies heart rate slowed way down. My doc checked me again (15 min. since I had been checked last) and I was 8 cm. She said they had to do an emergency c-section because of the babies heart rate. I was in the O.R. at 4:56 pm. They had me knocked out and Bearen Steven was born at 5:01pm.
Bearen was 6lbs 9oz and 19"long. When he came out he wasn't breathing very well, he was very pale, and limp. By the time I woke up they had him in NICU. He had to have a blood transfusion because he had lost some blood and his oxygen was low in his blood.
He had to be hooked up to oxygen for 2 days and was on an IV for 3 days. I had a little bit of infection set in on my incision on the 3rd day. BUT... we are all doing great now and we were released today. Everything is going great and it feels awesome to be home. Our little man is nursing great and I couldn't be happier!!!!
Re: Bearen Steven is here... (PIP)
He is adorable. Makes me so excited to meet my little guy
What a story! You progress so quickly and still need a c-section. Just goes to show you can't prepare for it all.
But you've got a handsome little guy to make you forget it all! Congrats!!
