Hi ladies- My 3 1/2 year old has been doing pretty well potty training but he refuses to wear underwear and insists on wearing a diaper all the time. I got him his favorite, Thomas the Train underwear thinking that would help but it has done nothing. He still has accidents and I think it's b/c he's not 100% confident. Any tips on getting him to wear it?
Re: My son refuses to wear underwear!
Do you think the problem is confidance or do you thinkg it is that the undies feel odd to him? I don't know what to do about confidance except keep rewarding success and treat accidents matter of factly. We don't make a bid deal of them at all. Also if you think he will be okay and you are ready, I would throw the diapers out. This really helped my son!
If it is about the feel of undies (something we battled), I have 2 suggestions. 1) Try boxer briefs. I know lots of moms whose kids didn't like the feel of undies but the boxers have been fine. 2) Let him go without undies. If he has on pants most places won't be able to tell he isn't wearing undies. My son has trouble with undies and staying dry but does great in just pants. We are super lucky that our preschool doesn't care if he wears them as long as he wears pants.
Good luck.
