Attachment Parenting

I am the one having a hard time with the transition from bedsharing to own bed, help!

I need moral support.

We moved this week and I felt like now was the time to make the transition, that and our movers put our bed on its frame in our room so I pulled out DD's crib mattress like I do for naps and laid it on her floor in her room and put her to bed that night there.

Just like that.

She didn't last there the whole night but all this week she has taken naps and started the night there.

Its been hard to go to bed without her. I feel like this is the right time to try it and her room is literally attached to ours by a door but still. I miss her!

Normal? Or am I too attached?

Side issue is that when she wakes and I am not there she runs to the gate and screams until I come and have to nurse her back down.  I know we have to work on not nursing to sleep but will this come or do I have to make intentional changes to help this?

  • We stopped bedsharing full-time about five months ago, but he still woke up at night and joined me.   Then a few months ago, he started STTN and I am still having a hard time sleeping!  I got used to someone kicking me in the face in the middle of the night!  Which, coincidently, was the reason we decided he needed to be in his own bed. :)

  • My LO has always gone to bed at the same time as me, so I always just brought him to bed with me.  Lately, he's starting to want to go down at like 7:30 or 8 so I've been putting him down in his crib.  It is SO HARD for me to go to sleep without him.  I find myself staring at the video monitor from my bed and almost willing him to wake up.  Which makes me feel like I must be at least one part crazy person ;)  ...but yeah, I know we have many, many nights of bedsharing ahead of us, even if/when it's only from first wake up to the morning...and I still struggle.  I will probably be a mess when he sleeps through the night in his own bed.

  • I am the same way! I just can't sleep without her! I am glad I'm not the only one :)

  • If you're too attached so am I:) sometimes after she falls asleep I just lay there cuddling her and I honestly feel like it is my favorite thing in the world to do. I worry about transitioning a lot.

  • I feel the same way. My LO moves so much now that I put her down for her naps in her crib and when she goes down at night I put her in her crib. When I'm ready to head up to bed, I take her out of her crib and put her in bed with me! I just can't sleep without her next to me. Her crib is in my room...

  • Yup, same here! We're in a transitional stage, similar to what you described, and it's really hard to fall asleep when he's down the hall.
