I have been on bed rest in the hospital for about a month and a half now. I'm 3cm dilated and 80% effaced... I just really would like advice or know if anyone who is in a similar position. Im going crazy just not knowing how long I'll stay like this or how long I can stay dilated this far before giving birth. My dr. Act like they truly doubt I'll make it to term .
Re: 29weeks and 3cm dilated
If you are going to deliver soon, you are in a good time frame. I had a 30 weeker (30weeks 1 day), and he spent 38 days in the NICU. He had no issues what so ever, just needed to grow. It will be a hard journey but you will make it through. The preemies board has a lot of experience and information. I know it's tough but hang in there!

Well, I had preterm labor starting at 27 weeks, at the point I had a cervical ultrasound which showed funneling. I ended up at the hospital one more time with ptl again, kept over night and put on mag sulfate and had a positive ffn. A few days later my water broke and I was dilated 1cm. I sat in the hosp. for 5 days until I went into full blown labor. He was born 12.5hrs later!

I am currently on hospital bedrest as well. I am 3-4cm dilated and 80% effaced, I literally have NO cervical length left, my last transvaginal u/s for length they weren't even able to measure it because I have completely funneled to the external os of my cervix. I am also on procardia for contractions which are 3-5 mins and extremely intense without the meds and basically according to my perinatologist I could deliver "any day" the only thing left is for my water to break.
However, I have been 3 cm dilated since 25 weeks and been on hospital bedrest since xmas. Im still here and REALLY hoping to at least make it to 34 weeks.
Good Luck!
I had PTL starting at 30 weeks and was dilated to a 3-4. Thanks to the magnesium sulfate IV and then procardia for 8 weeks I was able to hold on until 38 weeks. I had one hospital stay of almost a week then strict bed rest at home. When I actually delivered her I was already dilated to almost a 7.
Good luck! I sure hope your little one stays put for a while longer. But as other posters have said, you are in the best place possible should baby come early.
It is really hard to tell.
I was checked with DS at 35 weeks and was already 3cm and 80% effaced. I ended up being induced a month later at 39w4d for a number of reasons and had a 9 pounds 11 ounce baby boy. So a dilated cervix can hold on for quite a long time (and can hold a lot of baby!). I was never on bedrest either.
On the other hand, my water broke with my DD at 35w4d and I wasn't dilated at all before that happened. I was effaced (had cervical shortening and funneling with both pregnancies) but not dilated even a few hours after my water broke.
You just never know.
