Hi ladies! I can finally post over here now...yay!!! I?m Megan, almost 26, history is in siggy. It?s great to see so many familiar faces over here! :-) So I?m a little late...I had my son over two weeks ago, but I?ve had my MIL here for the first 4 days and then my parents stayed with us for a week and a half, so I?ve been crazy busy and adjusting to life as a mom...I?m sure you all understand. Anyway, here is my birth story for those that are interested.
On Wednesday Dec. 28 we went to our doctors appointment for our 37 week checkup. He told us my fluid level was low and that if it didn?t increase by the next week, he would have to do a C-section. (I posted a question over here asking about this.) Well we really didn?t want to do a C-section unless absolutely necessary and we wanted to double check that this doctor was correct, so we went to a different doctor on Thursday Dec. 29 to get a second opinion about my low fluid level. We ended up leaving with the plan to go to the hospital that same night to induce vaginally. He agreed that my fluid was low and that it would probably continue to decrease and that it would be dangerous to wait any longer to have the baby. Plus I was already 3cm dilated, so we decided to go ahead.
Here?s the short, sweet version:
We got to the hospital around 5pm. At 10:17pm on 12/29/11, Lucas Abelardo was born weighing 6.8 pounds and measuring 19 inches long. Little peanut :-) He is a nice mix of me and DH and we are so in love with him!
Longer, more detailed version:
When we got to the hospital around 5pm, we checked in and got sent up to the room. I was still 3 cm dilated, baby?s head was still right there ready to go, and I wasn?t really feeling strong contractions. They started me on the IV and gave me some drug (I forget what it was) to make the contractions come more frequently and stronger. It worked. The doctor checked me again around 7pm and I was at a 5pm. The contractions were starting to get pretty painful. I was doing my breathing exercises, but by the time I got to 7cm, I just couldn?t handle the pain anymore. Doc broke my water and then after that it hurt like hell! Next came the epidural and it was absolutely wonderful! I am amazed that women can go through childbirth without it, my props go out to all of you natural/no medicine birth women, because I sure as heck couldn?t do it! :-) After the epi, the doc checked me again around 9:45pm, I was about 9cm and they were ready to move me to the labor and delivery room. We got over there and prepped by 10pm. By this point the first dosis of the epi had started to wear off, so they gave me more just in time to push. I could tell when a contraction was coming and felt lots of pressure but it wasn?t very painful though. I could feel him coming out of me. After about 4 pushes and 15 minutes, our beautiful son was born! I am so greatful that it was such a fast, smooth, pain-free, safe delivery. It was an overall good experience. I am almost back to my normal self. Still a little sore and occasional bleeding, but overall feeling really good. Also, for the record, I thought the cervical checks were painful as hell and so was the IV in my hand!
