Just wanted to see how many people sleep with their kids part of the night. DD, who's almost 2, likes to fall asleep in my bed and then sometimes wakes up at 5AM to come back and get in bed with me. The rest of the night she sleeps in her crib. I don't mind because I get up at 5:30 AM anyway. DH generally sleeps in another room, weird, I know, but he likes to sleep with the TV on, and he's always going on and on about how she shouldn't be sleeping with me, or making it "the norm" that she thinks she can get up at 5AM to come in with me. How many of you sleep with your kids part of the night? If you don't, how did you break them of it. DD has been a terrible sleeper since birth, and just in the last few months, I've let her come in and she sleeps good, otherwise I might be up at 4AM with her trying to get her back to sleep in her crib all night. Re: Kids Sleeping With You
DD -- 5YO
DS -- 3YO
i have cuddlers--my dd will wake up to use the bathroom and try to come cuddle with us--we can talk her out of it. she will now go cuddle with her brother or sleep on the couch. my son likes to cuddle with me before he falls asleep at night-we then move him to his bed.
i believe that at 4am if they join me or 5am (after daddy leaves for work) that is cuddling with me, not sleeping with me. i also figure they are only going to want to cuddle/sleep with me for a few more years so i will allow it and enjoy it while i can!
Never.
I'm a super heavy sleeper and so is DH. We also snore like crazy and probably should be tested for sleep apnea. I was always afraid one of us would roll over on him or something. I also have friends who can't get their 3, 4 or 5 years olds out of their beds now and didn't want to be us.
For the first 3-4 months, C slept in a bassinett in our room. That's when we realized our noises were keeping him awake. He was much happier after that, and he now loves his room.
We are working on getting him to spend ANY time in his own bed. I don't mind him in ours though...at 6 months he's still eating every 1.5-2 hours so all I do is switch sides/roll over and go to sleep while he eats. If I had to get up the 4-5 times he eats at night, I would lose my brain completely. We've got a co-sleeper next to our bed so slowly I'm trying to get him to spend at least the first part of the night there. We just started 3 nights ago though. (he doesn't have his own room until one of the teenagers heads off to college)
I'm in no hurry - with 2 teens in the house, I know all too well how fast the time goes.
I voted "rarely," but that's been a new development now that she's older. DD has been in our bed a LOT, and was in there full time for various stretches of time in her first two years. She is not a good sleeper and I quickly abandoned any notions of having a rule about never allowing this - it was survival. And, I did kind of love the cuddles, until toddlerhood turned her into a flippy floppy bedhog.
She is still welcome in our bed (or, often I will cuddle her in her bed now that she's got a full size big girl bed) if she needs it for whatever reason. If she's sick she often needs that.
Me too. DH and I actually talked about this before we even had kids. We have friends who complain that they haven't had a decent night's sleep since their twins were born because they still climb into their bed at 6 year old. We swore that would NOT be us. So, we're pretty much on the same page regarding no kids in the bed.

I voted for "other" since DS has slept with us--but it's less frequently than rarely and more than never.
When we've traveled, he won't sleep in a PNP (we've never been to a hotel that offers a real crib) so he generally will sleep in-between DH and I. We hope, as he gets older, he'll sleep in his own bed at a hotel.
At home, the only time he's slept with us is when we lost power during the freak snowstorm we got in October. It was for warmth and he slept poorly (as did we).
If cosleeping works for you, that's great. But none of us get any sleep when we share a bed.

Our LO doesn't sleep in our bed, ever. I have anxiety about that, given her age now. Too afraid of rolling over on her (I'm also a heavy sleeper), her getting wrapped in the covers, or falling out of the bed. Right now it just isn't for me.
All that said: I also likes my space. MH & I downgraded from a king-size bed to a queen and I have a hard enough time with 1 other person in that bed (and a 20 lb dachshund/poodle mix). Constant battle over covers, lol.
