Anyone successfully induce labor with sex?

I know the rationale for why sex might jump start labor is more theoretical than based on any actual evidence or studies and opinions are mixed. Has anyone successfully induced labor with sex? What week were you in? How long after having sex did you start having contractions? Just curious.

Re: Anyone successfully induce labor with sex?

  • It didn't induce labor but certainly made something happen.  We started having some long drawn out daily sex sessions last Thurs and on Sun, my mucus plug came out and Mon night, I got horrible painful contractions every hour all night.  The contractions have been continuing every hour this entire week but have not turned into real labor.  My cervix is a little more effaced because of them but the dilation is stuck at 1 cm.  We stopped having daily sex on Tues because I couldn't take the pain of the contractions anymore but the contractions have not stopped.

  • I think it worked for me 7.5 years ago when I was pregnant with my second child. It was the day after the due date when we tried since I really did not want to be induced. Not sure if it really induced labor or if it was time for the baby to come anyway. But I started having strong contractions very shortly after sex. Went to the hospital 2 hrs later.. and was fully dilated an hr after that. My husband ofcourse thinks it was just a coincidence and had nothing to do with sex..
  • Last time, my husband and I were having sex daily since I was 39 weeks along and I still didn't go into labor until 41 weeks (no progress before that, either).
  • I'm a FTM, who is still pregnant, but from what I understand semen has properties (for lack of a more accurate word, because I can't remember what exactly it is) that softens the cervix and female orgasms help the uterus contract.  So, it won't induce labor if your body isn't ready, but maybe speed things along if it is.  That and nipple stimulation (also causes contractions, just like when you breastfeed) are two of the OWTs that might actually have some credibility, at least over things like spicy foods.  I'm willing to give it a try anyway.

  • I'm a FTM and I'm 39w2d today and we had sex last night and I lost my MP this morning. So i think that it helped soften my cervix enough to let go of my MP. I'm really hoping that something happenes this weekend. I really don't want to work next week!
