Shooting while pregnant

Here is a odd question. Does anyone know if it is ok to shoot target practice while pregnant? My wife and I purchased a 9mm before she became pregnant and she only got to shoot it 1 time. I am wondering if we have to wait till the baby is born to go shooting again. Can anything happen to a baby inside from the sounds outside?

Yes - we were wondering where our sole dad on the board disappeared to Glad you're still around!

I shot while pregnant with my last (went to concerts, sporting events, etc). Noises are extremely muffled for your little one, so while it may wake them/startle them, it won't harm them.

My husband and I shoot and restore guns for a hobby. So this is question i'm asked all the time. You should be fine shooting a 9mm. Its a small enough caliber that it wont hurt the momma or baby. Just make sure if she handles the bullets that she washes her hands right after. Most bullets are made with lead. Lead can cause serious birth defects if exposed for prolonged periods of time or if its ingested. If the bullets are lead free there is no worry. Also ensure that when you get home and clean the gun that it is in a well ventilated area away from your wife. The fumes can be harmful. I shot our AK 47 this weekend and didn't have any problems. Have fun shooting!

We took a friend out shooting while she was preg 1st and 2nd tri and nothing went wrong. they're pretty well insulated in the early stages (especially if you're using an outdoor range). I fully intend to go shooting this spring as we have a new handgun i need to get familiar with.

Maybe see if you have a good outdoor range, or a good piece of BLM/National forrest land you can go to. DH and i primarily shoot up in the forrest (no charge to go there vs. a shooting range).

Thanks for the advice on the gun cleaning...DH shoots sometimes and just a few weeks ago was cleaning his guns...i was wondering about that- I did try and stay out of the room while he was cleaning them...next time Ill make sure its better ventilated...I don't think a one time thing would do much harm...plus I think that was before our u/s

Your baby can't hear at 11 weeks. I think it starts to hear at 16 or 18 weeks. But I agree with pp, shooting a gun should be fine. I plan to get my permit to carry while pregnant.

Prior to being pregnant, I regularly went squirrel hunting and Spring/Fall turkey hunting with my Remington 870. However, hubby and I have decided no guns until after August... Not that the noise would be an issue, but the weight of the gun and the kick are our concern.

gotta say it is kinda awesome that there are this many women that hunt and shoot on here. you all rock in my opinion.
