WWYD re: co-worker's baby shower

A co-worker of mine is expecting a baby soon and we are having a small work baby shower for her (there is a large gap between kids). Anyways, I looked at her registry and I don't want to buy anything she has registered for - there are either very large items (crib, etc) or items that I wouldn't buy for a baby (J&J stuff, plastic stuff, etc). So I was planning on getting her some EF baby bath products and a toy with a gift receipt. Does that sound enough? I feel like I want to get her a bunch of EF stuff but we are not close at all and it would just be weird to do that. I am going to share the EFF blog link with her as she sounded interested when I was talking about CDs even though she's not planning on using CDs yet. Would you do anything else? What would you get as a gift if it were you? Any opinions appreciated. TIA!

  • You could always give her a gift card.

If she is going to BF, maybe gift her a consultation with a lactation consultant, or give a gift certificate for a EF maid company. Those are things you can't really register for, but I think most moms would appreciate somebody cleaning their bathroom for them in the 3rd trimester.

  • I'd probably just do a gift card with a small eco-toy. Then they can pool their cards and get those larger items they really need on their own.

  • How about a eco-friendly toy and some bibs?  I don't know if you know how to sew but the bibs that you can buy on Etsy are awesome b/c they absorb more and are bigger.

I like this idea.  Gift cards are always great but aren't all that fun to open at a shower.  The toy would make it interesting to open and add some thought to the gift.

ETA:  Not that you aren't putting thought in - it is just sometimes perceived that gift card = no thought.

FWIW - I would much prefer gift cards to someone buying off my registry. To me it is actually more thoughtful. And I went out of my way to find an independent retailer who offerred clear and obvious gift cards. I thought it would help make my guests lives eaier, save on shipping, etc......
