adding weekly counter picture / posting?

I have 2 (maybe silly) how-to questions...

1. How do I add/upload one of those images in my signature that shows how far along you are (like 16 weeks - avocado!)?  I was able to find where to add text in my signature and add my avatar but not anything beyond that. I uploaded 2 bump pictures to my account as well, but couldn't figure out how to add them to either a signature or a post.

2. When I am viewing existing threads, I do not have a "post" button, only a "reply" button so I can reply to someone else's existing comment under the thread.  If I want to just respond to someone's original question, how do I do that?  Am I missing something, or is there something wrong with my account?

Thanks for any help, as a newbie I appreciate it!!!
