Hi ladies,
First, a little history. Twice in the last six months, after sex, I would experience severe abdominal pain/cramping, once accompanied by vomiting. That happened to me twice this week, once Tuesday, and once last night. So I went to the emergency room at the urging of my boyfriend.
I was supposed to get my period today, so I was planning on taking a HPT before Monday, because we were TTC. But they checked everything at the ER anyway, and confirmed via urine and blood that I am pregnant!! So they did the quantitative blood work and my hcg levels came back at 264 or something along those lines. They said I would be right about 4 weeks, and according to my LMP (Dec 16), I would be, too. Then, as a precaution and just to check on everything, they did an ultrasound and a vaginal ultrasound. When I got my results, the doctor told me that they did not see a gestational sac at all, so I have to go back on Saturday night to see if my hcg levels are increasing because she is concerned about an ectopic pregnancy. She did mention that it might just be too early, though.
So, of course, I'm kind of freaking out today. I've googled other threads this morning about the same issue, and I've read a lot of stories that say it's completely normal not to see a gestational sac until about 6 weeks, but obviously I can't help being worried.
This is my first pregnancy, and I have no history of problems or anything. Any stories or advice?
Thanks!

Re: 4 weeks - no gestational sac
Yep. My RE won't do an ultrasound until the hCG level is over 1000. Even then she warns that it might be too early to see anything.
Thanks ladies, for all of the support and kind words! I went back on Saturday night and they drew my blood again, and my level had doubled to 528. For some reason, though, they still keep telling me to not think of this as a normal pregnancy. Is this only because they are ER doctors and not familiar with what is normal? I've never been pregnant before, and I've never had any problems...
As far as I'm concerned, I'm good to go!
