I found a town home there for less than the Woodbury ones. This would also be a closer drive for my husband. Would you choose Woodbury over Burnsville?
I would say there are some more questionable areas in Burnsville than in Woodbury. Probably about the same amount of shops, parks, restaurants, but I would agree about the schools... Woodbury would be better than Burnsville. As far as commute, depending on where in Burnsville, you might not be any closer than in Woodbury.
Other areas of the Twin Cities to consider would be Eagan or Inver Grove Heights. Both have a fair number of townhouses and are a little closer to the airport. There are some not as nice areas of Eagan. As far as schools, I'd shoot for those in the district 196 area of Eagan as that district has a pretty good reputation. I can't really think of any areas of Inver Grove Hts that I would consider questionable.

I would like to also throw out the idea of Eagan or even Apple Valley to you, there are tons of airline families in Eagan (including my own) its super convenient to get to the airport and great schools. District 196 which is Eagan and Apple Valley has a good reputation and many good schools to choose from. They are also in great locations with all the shopping and things you need within a 15 minute drive, including the Mall of America.
I would choose Woodbury over Burnsville to answer your initial question but I would also say you should look into Eagan or Apple Valley as well. Good luck!

In my opinion (having an airport husband as well) South Minneapolis, Richfield or Eagan are better options than Burnsville or Woodbury. We live in South Minneapolis and love it. Lots of young families and easy access to public transit. My husband has a 10 minute commute regardless of time of day. I have a friend who lives in Eagan, which is a great option if you're looking for more of a suburban feel. Parts of Richfield, although a suburb, do have more access to public transit, etc. and more of a city feel.
Thanks ladies! I initially was looking at Apple Valley and Eagan, but I am having a hard time finding a nice sized newer town home in those areas. I would really love something over 1700 sq feet. If I find something I would definitely look at Eagan. I would love for my husband to have a short commute (gets him home faster to help with kids too:). Thanks for all the input. If you have any other comments or advice, I would love to hear it!
You might want to look at Rosemount too. They just build a bunch of brand new town homes and it is about 10-15 minutes from the airport. The schools are excellent. Safe area, lots of families.
It totally depends where the town home is...my town home in Eagan was not in a great school district...now my house in Burnsville is in the 196 school district, which is one of the best in the state! So check out the area for sure, we love it here, we looked at woodbury, and there are tons of new townhouses...but Woodbury seemed really suburbia...sprawled out, no downtown, etc. we are ten minutes from the airport, moa, etc.
I agree that Woodbury is better than Burnsville. That said, is this a forever move for you? I personally would be wary of buying a town home in any city right now, unless I was planning on staying there a very long time. Town homes are hard to sell right now...
I personally wouldn't want to live in Woodbury or Burnsville.
I would look in South/Southwest Minneapolis like PP mentioned, as well as Edina, WEST Bloomington, Eden Prairie.
All have good school districts, close to shops/restaurants etc, while still being 15 minutes from the airport without traffic and 20-30 minutes with traffic.
It's a no-brainer, definitely Woodbury. We currently live in Burnsville and dislike it; we've been trying to sell our TH off and on for the last 4 years so we can move to Woodbury. I grew up in Woodbury and LOVE the area - close to Stillwater, St Paul, airport, etc. Personally, I would pick Woodbury over any of the above mentioned cities, but I'm a bit biased.
