i was diagnosed with graves back in '06, and it's been in remission since '08 after tapazole. i'm having a hard time figuring out what symptoms are from pregnancy/postpartum, stress of going back to work or my thyroid. i have to get my blood work done in a couple weeks anyway, but wanted to see what others' experiences were after the baby and how it's affected your thyroid.
my symptoms: hair loss, feeling wired even when i'm tired, slight heart palpitations (although not nearly as bad as the pounding i felt when i was first diagnosed), rapid weight loss
Re: Thyroid disease
3 mos pp is about when the hair loss began for me, it sucked. I did have the wired feelings, but some of that was just anxiety too.
I don't have a thyroid, but my meds definitely had to be adjusted a lot during pregnancy and then afterwards. I would probably wait until my next appointment to ask, but you can certainly call your endo to see if you can be seen sooner.
the hair loss thing was freaking me out for a bit, but then i thought i remembered hearing people were experiencing it around 3-4 mo pp. we have a drain catcher in the shower, and i'm pulling just wads of hair out of it after i wash my hair. :-
I lost a lot of hair around 4 months PP and my OB said it was normal.
However, I just had a routine physical in October (over a year PP) and my bloodwork showed I had subclinical hypothyroidism. My RE said that thyroid "stuff" (real medical term) can change after pregnancy.
A friend of mine has/had graves as well and it she had lots of issues with it after both of her pregnancies. I don't know the specifics, but she had to be on some seriously strong medication (that kept her from BF or even being around her DCs for a bit) after both pregnancies while everything evened out.
I'm sorry I don't know more - I just wanted to share a bit about her story. I think it's definitely wise to be aware that some of the changes you're going through COULD be brought on by the graves, but I'm definitely no expert. Talk to your Dr for sure and nurse Taytee can probably help w/ some questions as well
