Holy crap! Claire has a newborn sister

I got a call tonight from out caseworker- Claire's birth mom had another baby yesterday! And she's been taken into state custody. We were called since we have adopted the bio sister. She is 6lbs 7 oz and apgar was 9 and 9. We are in total shock, we knew this was a possibility but never thought it would actually happen. We are going to see the baby tonight at the hospital, and we have to decide if we want her, part of me doesn't know if I can go through all the drama again of adopting thought foster care, we got so lucky with Claire and it was such an easy process. And goodness can I handle a newborn and a 2 year old!? But that's my babies sister!! Please play for us that we make the right decision for our family!!
Our Journey from two to three! 3 IUI's, 2 IVF's, decided to move to foster/adopt. 12/24/2009 Baby C born, 2/1/2010 placed with us, 5/17/2011 Adoption final- we are finally a forever family! Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

  • Wow! Sending you positive vibes tonight that you are able to make a decision you feel 100% about.

Also, mine are 23 months apart and it's not so bad. Much easier than I thought it would be, but I'm only 7 weeks in... I may feel differently in a few months.

    siggy should be here!
  • I just wanted to echo everyone else that you can handle a 2 year old and a newborn. I'm not going to sugar coat it and say it was easy, but Claire is several months older than Kennedy was and they grow a lot in that time (from 19 months to 2 years). It has really gotten so much easier now that Kennedy is older and it is SO sweet seeing them together. She loves her little brother so much, and they "play" great together already. I can't wait to hear how it goes tonight!

  • wow!!  what a shock that must be! ! I can't even imagine the crazy range of emotions you are dealing with right now, but its all very exciting!  I hope that you find peace and happiness with whatever your decision is! :)  (and that if it is to foster her, that it goes smoothly!!  does that fact that you have adopted before, and that child is her bio sister make it any more likely that they would approve things faster?)

If you want an unsolicited opinion I'd say if it's at all possible go for it!
