Tell me about your freezer stash

I'm 6 days pp and have been feeding and pumping regularly - I have 60 or so oz stored - is that a good amount?

I'm on leave until early April and will then go back to work full-time. I guess I'm not sure if I should keep building my stash or hold back on pumping. I usually feed DD and then pump the rest out and then pump the other side.

Re: Tell me about your freezer stash

  • Good for you for starting so early! I didn't really start pumping a lot until 6-8 weeks PP. Last time I checked I had over 350 ounces in my freezer and I am still pumping more than DD eats during the day. So 60 is a great start at 6 days pp.

  • Depends on how long you want to BF for, IMO.  I have 1 yr as my goal for LO and so when I was off on mat leave, I pumped twice every day to build a stash.  I started ~2 wks PP.  I was worried about my supply dropping once I returned to work.  I've been back at work 2 weeks but LO is eating slightly more than I'm pumping so I'm happy to have the stash now.   If pumping isn't an issue and you have a goal in mind, there's no harm in building a stash and it might alleviate any stress  if you end up with any supply issues down the line.

Just be careful- you are telling your body to make a lot of extra milk and could end up with an oversupply problem.

Yes, that seems like a LOT for 6 days pp. and remember milk is only good for about 3 months in the freezer, so you would have to use what you are freezing now before you return to work!

Only if it is a side by side and it's up to 6 months if you keep it in the back with less risk of thawing. If you have milk in a deep freezer, not in the door, it's 12 months. But yes, to answer your original question, that's an excellent stash. Just pump after LO eats to completely empty. I wouldn't pump between feedings because then you are telling your body to make more. Oversupply is more easily corrected than undersupply. Keep up the good work!
