I am working towards a natural birth and LOVE my OB. But I haven't had an exam yet - no one has either asked me and neither have I asked for one.
I think this is really making my anxiety levels rise - I'm super sensitive to every thing that's going on now. I know that LO is in the right position and I think...that she's dropped. My next appointment is Tuesday...just trying to take it easy, finish things on our to-do list, cook & freeze meals on Saturday, and try to fit in a mani/ pedi.
Anyone else feeling anxious like this too?
Re: 38 weeks and no exam yet!
I think I am more anxious because of all the exams I've gotten! I was going to say no to getting them but my curiosity keeps getting the best of me and I went from nothing to a FT back to nothing today at my 38 w appt. I wouldn't stress too much about it now and then if you would like to have one on Tuesday request one from your OB I'm sure they'll have no problem!
Good Luck this weekend ... we are doing much of the same and a mani/pedi sounds like an amazing idea! Although I feel bad for the technician I haven't been able to reach my toes for some time now!
I'm planning to refuse any exams because I think that would make me MORE anxious! Every time I've read a post on here where a woman is talking about getting an internal at her dr's office she is either a) frustrated because she hasn't make any progress and someone will inevitably post that they were checked and had no progress and had a baby two days later or b) frustrated because she had made a lot of progress and assumed she was going into labor and then stalled out for two weeks.
But that's just me. I am right there with ya though in terms of being sensitive to every little thing that my body or LO does. My due date based on LMP is less than a week away, so I'm questioning if the later date my doc gave me based on U/S is accurate or whether maybe I'm further along than we've been thinking (I feel further along!!). So Im scrutinizing every gas pain or BH. What a crazy time!!
I'm declining all vaginal exams until 41 weeks. The info they provide doesn't tell you anything useful. You could be 3-4 cm and 70% effaced and stay that way for weeks or you can be closed up tight and deliver w/in 24 hours. IMO the numbers just give you something to stress over.
If you really want to know what's going on you can ask for an exam but it's not going to tell you when you'll go into labor.
I'm 38 weeks and I've accepted that I could have LO tomorrow or up to 4 weeks from now. She'll come when she's ready, although I hope she hangs in there for the next two weeks as I have several projects I want to get finished before she arrives.
