Beaba vs. Baby Bullet

Hi, all!  I'm totally a cook at home kindof girl.  I LOVE making stuff from scratch (I'm the only person I know who actually makes my own pasta... Although not that often!

In any case, I was wondering if any of you have used either the Beaba OR the baby bullet to make homemade baby food.  I like that the Beaba steams AND purees the food in one container.  But the Baby Bullet is totally cute AND it's $50 (after coupon) at Bye Bye Baby... The Beaba is $135...

Does anyone have any recommendations with either one of these products?  Do you think I should post this on another board to get more feedback?

I don't have an answer for you, just wanted to say I've been wondering the same thing.

Hmmm... the Beaba has some pretty great reviews.

  • We were going to get the Beaba but after reading reviews on multiple sites, I saw that most of the complaints were the same one -- over time this mold/crust forms in the water reservoir area (or somewhere around there - it's been a while since I researched it) and it's really hard to clean/you can't get it out. So that bummed me out. Instead we're going with the Baby Brezza which also steams and purees in one machine. I think the Baby Bullet just purees? So you'd need another pot to steam the food in.

I'm curious as to what others recommend, though. We registered for the Brezza because I saw other moms recommend it over the Beaba.

  • I haven't made baby food yet- but I'm a shameless foodie, and I already have a magic bullet, which seems to work well on cooked foods. I've only used it to make carrot puree and applesauce, that I would consider to be close to baby food. But on raw carrots.. fuhgeddabouddit..

I would LOVE to have the beaba but just because I love kitchen gadgets and would use it for 100 other things.

  • Pretty sure I wont be buying anything fancy, or specifically made to make baby food, because I'm pretty sure my food processor can handle it all. =o)
  • If you already have a decent food processor I would save my money.  I too love gadgets and cooking but am trying to be smart about purchases and my food processor worked great to make all the baby food.

My feelings as well. No need for a unitasker in my kitchen when my Cuisinart can do the exact same thing!

  • you don't need anything fancy. I made all of DS's food. you just need a food processer (any kind will work), ice cube trays and gallon zip bags.

that's exactly what I'm thinking. My mom mentioned the baby bullet and I asked her to please not buy it for us, we have a processor and a blender so I think we're good!

  • I haven't, but I have made my own baby food.  It's super easy and in my opinion, those products are a total waste of money.  Save your money and use it to buy quality produce.

To make your own baby food, you just need a good blender or food processor, which most of us have.  Wash and cook your food using whatever method you prefer and blend.  You may need to add a small amount of water depending on how much liquid the food has after cooking.  Then, place the food into ice cube trays and freeze.  Once it's frozen, snap it out of the trays and into a resealable bag or container.  Label it, pop it into the freezer and it's ready when you're ready to feed the kiddo.

ETA: We're also total cook at home and make from scratch people.  We make our own sausages, beer, preserves and pretty much anything that strikes our fancy.  Heck, if we had enough land, we'd raise our own animals as well.  That being said, we have a well stocked kitchen and are not fans of unitaskers (which those products are).  Unitaskers take up precious space and waste money you can spend on more fun things like weird ingredients.

this.  i made all ds's food and we didn't even have a food processor. i just used our blender lol.  i have a really nice 14cup food processor now so i'll use that this time around.  but you don't need one of those baby gadgets.  esp if you plan on making food in batches, they won't be big enough, they're more for 1-2 servings.

oh and the food processor i got is by GE and i got it at walmart for about $50!

  • My cousin bought the Beaba thinking it would save time over her food processor. She was wrong. Returned it 3 days later. She said she has an easier time with the food processor and its much easier to clean.

I LOVE kitchen toys and stuff, but I wont be getting one because it just seems like a waste of money.

For the PP that mentioned the magic bullet - I have a few friends say they use it for single servings all the time. Like if the adults are having peas she will just throw a handful in the magic bullet for the baby - no defrosting and no extra cooking. I've just heard you have to stir it once or twice away from the sides to get it smooth.

You are right.  This is one place where you can save yourself some money and not buy the extra gadget.  Everybody that has one that I know says they love it and can't live without it.  But I made DS's food at home using a steamer basket and my blender and I think I lived without the Beaba quite easily :)  I agree with the pp - save yourself some money and spend it on quality produce!

  • We made our ds baby food. We just used our regular magic bullet. If you have a food processor use that, I wouldn't waste the money on the baby bullet or beaba.
  • I have a magic bullet and a mini food processor (with only one type of blade).  I friend and I were talking about the greenhouse SO is making and our garden and she mentioned when she saw the baby bullet she thought of me.  I said that I was interested in getting one and turns out that's what she was wanting to get me for a shower gift.  I looked at the price and it's more expensive than I thought so it may not happen, but I'm okay with that too.

No, I probably don't need the baby bullet, but I like it and I'm sure it will serve its purpose.  If I had a really good food processor I'd probably bypass it all-together, but who am I to say no to a gift!

I heard the Baby Bullet isn't BPA free, unlike the Magic Bullet.

I made most of DS's food--I just used a blender/food processor and poured it into an ice cube tray to freeze into appropiate portion sizes. it was free.

  • I just bought the baby bullet three days ago and I think i'm gonna return it.  I love the cute storage system.  The more I think about it, its simply just a small blender.  When I first tried it I was only able to make 3 banana (6 bullets).  I paid 50 for it and we already have a blender.  Then when I wanted to steam some squash I realized I need a steamer.  I've been thinking of the Beaba for a long time because I love the look but didn't want to pay for it (it is now 119 at BBB).  Plus I've been reading reviews about the mold for Beaba.
  • I had no idea the Beaba was so costly!  We got it as a baby shower gift (not registered for it)...maybe I'll return it.  Hmm...

  • 1 - You must be the pregnat-iest lady ever :)

2 - I have the BabyCook and I really like it. I like that you just throw in the food and a measure of water and you can forget about it (until it's time to process it, that is). It's also just the right size (I get enough puree to exactly fill one ice cube tray if I fill it up)

3 - Had the Baby Bullet been around when I had DD1, though, I probably would have gone for it. Because I'm cheap like that :)

  • I've tried both baby bullet and beaba.  I love beaba soooo much more.

Baby Bullet.  I got because it was so cute and the price was cheaper than beaba ($60 vs $129).  Then I realized after I use it that it was nothing but a tiny blender with a smiley face.  It holds 3 bananas and measure out to 6 bullets.  By the way, their booklet instruction is not accurate (ex: blending 1/4 cup water and 1 banana is like water).  The cute bullet storage container barely hold 1 oz.  When I wanted to make squash or potato I realized I need to steam it first.  Buying a steamer is 30 bucks and takes up more space.

Beaba is so much better.  It takes 15 minutes to steam a squash and less than 2 minutes to blend it.  All in one container.  Less things to wash.   I got 15% off this from Potterry Barn.  I felt that this hold a lot more than the baby bullet.  It was pretty easy to clean too.  I hope this help.  I still live with my parents to this works much better for me.  I can get in and out the kitchen without making too much mess.
