TTC after 35

Ladies seeing an RE, please help!

what is your experience with the RE, I had a consult Nov 30th, then I got my period, did baseline tests and they wanted me to get a Saline Sonohysterography and I had my obgyn do it so I didnt have to wait for my next cycle since everythinga and everyone doesnt work around x-mas so now I have to go back tommorrow for a prolactin check adn another consult on Jan 18th, so no treatment for this cycle,  is this normal? so far the only thing they found was slightly elevated prolactin level as in it was 40, let me know if this is the standard protocal or what? I feel like I am just wasting time? What do I do? what is preventing any treatment???

TIA!

Re: Ladies seeing an RE, please help!

  • Yes, it is normal for the initial workup to take some time as certain tests can only be done at specific times of your cycle.  I know it is frustrating to feel like you are wasting time but a lot of treatment is waiting.  You hurry up and wait... I hate to say it but get used to it!   You can't do treatment until they have all the results so they know what to give you.

  • TTC with a RE is all about hurry up and wait.  At the beginning of 2011 we were all ready to start IVF but our new insurance said that we had to change REs.   Had initial consult in January, had some different tests RE office wanted, and had to wait until March to cycle.  Would say that your experience is not outside the normal range, but actually quite common.  Spent much of past year waiting......and each month feels like an eternity with clock loudly ticking.  Sorry that things aren't happening as quickly as you would like.

  • Hurry up and wait. That sums it up best.

My initial work-up with the RE was in 7/10, my first IUI was 11/10. It could have been as early as 9/10, but I had a cyst I had to wait out and a missed ovulation. Once you get through the initial testing though, thing move pretty quickly. If I need an appointment, I can usually get it next day.

  • My experience has been different. I go to a practice that has 5 RE's. And I've been seen by 4 so far for various tests and exams. They are really hyper vigilant about scheduling stuff according to what day it is of your cycle. During my consult they gave me this plan which is basically on day this we test this, on day that we test that, etc. So depending on where I'm in my cycle it's not rare for me to to be at their office at least 2 times a week getting various stage u/s or bloodwork.

So on the plus side, their's always someone around to do what needs to be done. On the minus side, I sometimes feel like I'm on an assembly line.

  • yes i agree! but i love my RE she is great i can text her with guestions whenever i need to, and she is good about getting back. i am 42 and we have been trying forever to have a baby . 13 years ago i had many many miscarriages, 2 ectopic pregnancys, lost right tube. and kept trying on our own with little help from gyn doc.  2 years ago changed doc and after trying with ops month after month asked to see a specialist and after a few visits and my million dollar bloodwork she called it, i was diagnosed with mthfr dna mutation. and if i did get pregnant my blood would would get rid od the pregnacy.  i am on baby aspirin, lots of folic acid , b6,b12 and prenatel vitamins. and had hydro sono, blue dye one done .  i have done 3 iuis and i need to produce more eggs, i responded nice to clomid but i have no tube on right so left is only one we care about.   so i was gambling with one egg on each side. i asked doc i need more eggs how can i get more? she said we need to go to injectables for the best chance and we need to do it as soon as we can. husband has ins. but no prescription coverage, yeah stinks. it does take time i have learned to be patient, and its all u can do i am feeling very positive i am doing all i can and it will happen for me . and alot of praying!  i guess we just have to go with the flow, i think the stess
  • i think that stress is no good for anyone especially in our situations when we need to be relaxed and focused. its not easy i have a great family and i am not gonna give up until i can honestly say i gave it my all. and i believe if u give it your all good things can come your way.  imiracle4meplz  best of luck with everyone i am going to get to know many of u . god bless!  prayers your way!
  • Yes, it takes time to get started. They want to optimize everything before starting IUI/IVF. I'm having a polyp removed tomorrow and then need to heal for one cycle. My first visit was 12/8/11 and it's all diagnostic stuff takes time. I'm looking a March to start meds with my RE. It's frustrating as the clock ticks.
