I really would like to make a lifestyle change. I have started by eliminating sodas and eating a more balanced diet but I would like to start working out. I do Zumba once a week but would like to do a dvd at home. I have seen the infommericals on Insanity it looks like it would be hard but doable. So my question is can a beginner start Insanity?
Re: Honest opinion please
You can start it, just don't beat yourself up if you need to take lots of breaks or can't complete an move. Just remember to listen to your body and take a break when need it.
I did Turbo Fire and loved it. It's by BeachBody, it's a month longer than Insanity and it's Cardio Kickboxing. I wouldn't be able to do the jumping in Insanity because of tender knees and in TF you are give alternatives to their jumps. I lost 35 lbs in 3 months with TF.
I recommend getting several used DVD's on amazon. Variety is key.

I'm a personal trainer, and you can do Insanity, but it is very hard. It's important to take the breaks as you need them and stay hydrated, and most importantly not beat yourself up.
The hardest thing for my clients when they first start a program is to not get down on themselves for not being able to complete a workout easily.
With that said, I also thing it would beneficial for you to buy a variety of DVDs and get in the habit of working out on a consistent basis. Once you're used to the frequency it might be easier to go to a more intense workout.
I happen to love Tae Bo DVDs and even though I have a home gym, I frequently pop in one of those and workout.
Hope that helps!!
