  There are 4 midwives in the practice I chose for this pg.  I am doing midwife-based care.  I didn't have a ton of questions since this is my second pg.  My first appt was today.  I did ask if midwives are more present during labor/delivery.  Last time my dr was only in the room for the last 10 min or so of pushing (2 hrs pushing total) and the nurse was much more the primary care provider than the dr was.  The answer was yes, much more present.

  I also aim to do it med-free this time, but asked if I had the option to get an epi if I change my mind.  I do have the option.

  Other than that just ask all the same questions you'd ask a dr.  Maybe things like: will you have access to a birthing tub if you chose, will you have med options if you feel you need them (if you are birthing at a birth center the answer could be no), if you are not giving birth at a hosp how do they handle emergencies & how close if the nearest hosp, etc.

  DD1 born 5/24/10.

  Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.

  DD2 born 5/14/13.

  Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.

  Expecting someone new 4/17/17.

  With my last pg, I also asked what would happen if there was need for a csection. Would they still be there? Who would be the doctor attending? Etc.

  I haven't been to my first appt yet but plan on asking questions about how they handle certain situations that a traditional doctor would just rush to drugs & c-section as the answer.
