1st u/s not until 22wks?!

in 1st Trimester

I have my first OB appt on Tuesday and I thought for sure they would do an u/s, but I found out that the first one isn't done until 22 wks at the office I go to. I see u/s pics all the time from you ladies and was surprised that they wait so long. Since I had a m/c in Sept I think I can get one earlier, but still! Does anyone else's doctor wait so long?

    My doctors wait until 18 to 22 weeks unless you are having some issues.

    yup, I'm not getting mine until around then too.  I was/am pretty upset about it, but then i also found out that our insurance won't cover more than one ultrasound unless its medically necessary, so i guess i can wait until i know we can find out the gender.

    I got a dating u/s at 8 wks, NT scan at 12 weeks, elective sex check at 16 weeks and anatomy u/s at 20 weeks. I am having another u/s at 28 weeks now that I've been diagnosed with GD.

    I won't have an u/s (unless there is some problem that prompts one) until 20 weeks.

    I won't have an u/s til 20 weeks with my midwife. I'll probably elect to have an earlier one at 12 weeks so I can get the NT scan, though.

    With DS I had a u/s at 20 weeks.  I had a second one at about 30 weeks due to some concerns with little movement from DS.  If there were no concerns I would have had only one u/s.

    It is totally fine to not have a scan if you aren't having problems. I ended up having to have an early scan (6wk) due to spotting, but I was going to request to not have one before 20 weeks.

    In regards to not getting a scan until 22 weeks, you should have the option for an NT scan at 12 weeks. You might want to do some research on the NT scan, ask your doctor about it, and check to see if you insurance covers it  or it would be out of pocket. Then you can make the decision if this is something that you and your SO want to do.

    I get 2 with the option for a 3rd if we wanted the NT scan.  We did one at 8w 4d and will do another at 18-19 weeks for gender.  My dr doesnt do any others unless you want to pay out of pocket or it is medically necessary.  We opted out of the NT scan because we wouldnt abort even if there was a problem so we figure if there was an issue they will find it at the 18-19 week scan and that still gives us 20 weeks to get prepared.
