TTC after 35

XP: Started Looking at Potential Donors Today!

I took a personal day from work to go have my SHG done. I knew it wouldn't be a bad procedure, and I could totally have gone back to work afterward, but I have some other stuff going on today, and darn it, I just didn't want to!

Since I was already at my RE's office, they had almost all of our test results, and I had a free day in front of me, I asked if I could start looking at egg donor profiles. The nurse said yes, and I quickly texted DH to see if he could either get there immediately or if he cared if I did some pre-screening without him. He gave me the go ahead, and the nurse brought me the profiles of the 11 donors they currently have.

I spent an hour and a half going through the profiles, and I found a front-runner! I had asked the nurse before we started if they had anyone who was Middle Eastern, and she said she wasn't sure. I never thought they would, but they did! She is only a quarter Syrian (half German and a quarter Irish), but at least it's something. Her health history is also good, and she had success on a donor cycle last summer at my RE's office. She's also in school to be a social worker and loves to read so she had some other similarities to me. I had a few strong maybes also, but she is definitely my #1 right now.

Something is telling me that she is the one, but I don't want to make the decision without DH's approval or giving him the option to go look at profiles. I know he'll tell me it's up to me since he gets to be a part of this genetically, though he did say if he got to pick he would pick blonde hair and blue eyes like him (my polar opposite). Surprisingly, there was not one blonde in the bunch. The few that had blue eyes also had red hair, but nobody in our families has red hair.

This is exciting and scary all at the same time!

  • Too funny about having a redhead with blue eyes! Send her my way. That's me and when I looked at donor profiles online, I didn't really find any!

Good luck as you move forward!

  • That's exciting!  Best of luck.

  • That's really exciting!  :)  Must have been fun and interesting to read about the donors.  Do they show you pictures?  I am intrigued by how much or how little info you get about the person.  And the factors that go into choosing who is right for you... it's pretty incredible to have that option.  I am so excited for you!
