My baby was 4lbs 9oz today. I was shocked when I heard that number. I haven't had an u/s since my anatomy scan, and all of the books and "This week your baby is..." articles had me expecting a number just over 3 pounds. I know development is different for every baby and blah blah blah, but the fact that she is already 4 and a half pounds at 31 weeks has me nervous about pushing her out when she's to term! The techs and my doctor told me she is in the 76th percentile, so it's not like she's monstrously huge or anything, just on the big side. I was just diagnosed with GD, so I was worried, but apparently they are not, which is good enough for me.
If you've had an u/s recently, how big was your baby?
And, if there are any second time moms who had a late u/s, can you remember how big your baby was at the start of 3rd tri and whether or not your baby was big, average, or small at delivery? Apparently I was a 8.5 lb baby myself. Because I am short and petite, I always imagined I was on the small side (don't know why), but obviously birth weight and adult height are not related.
Re: For those who've had recent U/S - how big was baby?
That's good to hear. I kind of wondered how they even came up with the weight just from measuring length anyway. Sounds like it's a bit of a guessing game.
I had an u/s 2 weeks ago today actually. I was in L&D at 4am and they did not let me see the screen or the pictures, but the info was just added to my online chart today.
I would have been 28w2d, and she was a bit over 3lb, which is where I should be NOW based on all "how big is baby".
I don't really believe any of it. It is a guess even with an u/s. Im just happy she was healthy and fluid levels and all that jazz were as they should be
The one thing the Dr did say that night was "28 weeks? her 'breathing' looks advanced, I would say you are a few days/week ahead of that". Again, that information didn't change my EDD...
I feel you, I keep reading the 3.something online and in my Mayo clinic book, but after being 2.9 which was above the 2lb avg everywhere else at 26.5 I was expecting bigger than the avg.
I had a scan today and babe weighed in at 4lbs 1oz. Doing pretty good for him/herself.
I'm thinking this one is on track to being a little bigger than DD#1 who was 7lb 8oz. I'm kinda looking for LO to be close to 8lbs if not over by birth.
My BFP Chart
I just had an ultrasound on Monday and they said the baby was 4lbs 2oz and was measuring at 32 wks 2 days. It made me really nervous also. My first baby was 8lbs 5oz and I had a c-section with her. Not because of size though. I am still hoping for a VBAC this time.
My last u/s was a couple weeks ago. I was 28w3d and LO weighed 3lbs 3oz.

I had an ultrasound yesterday. Our little girl is measuring around 3.8 lbs. at our 28 week u/s she was in the 53rd percentile. Everything else is on track within a few days.
I think that if there was a problem with the size of your little one (sizing by u/s is not 100% accurate), I'm sure your doctor would talk to you about it. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.
All of our little ones will be here before we know it!

I too have GD I went on the 3rd....which made me 31w 3d...Baby was measuring 4lb 3oz, and they said he was measuring in range....My dr will do a growth U/s every to weeks to check his growth....my dr also told me there is a +/- and it isn't an exact science for ultrasounds....hope that helps....
When did you find out you have GD? Have you been able to mantain your blood sugar?
I found out last Thursday. So far my levels have been good just with the GD diet. They were a teensy bit high on the very first morning I started testing and a teensy bit high one other day after a meal, but my doctor told me she would only be concerned if 1/3 of my numbers were high.
Today baby weighed 5lbs 4oz. She is in the 73rd percentile - I am 32w4 days.
These measurements are pretty close to the same as my sons - he was born at 38 weeks and weighed 7lbs 6oz.
Yea they look for trends...my doctor told me since my sugars are maintained by my diet that she is treating me like every other pregnancy....she will only be concerned if she sees something that will make her concerned.....
Almost this exactly! A was 4.10 and B was 4.12
U/S in the last trimester, especially towards the very end of the pregnancy are +/- 1 pound.
They said Lukas was 3lbs. 12oz. on Monday's u/s.
At 30 wks Clayton was 3 lbs 11 oz (53%tile) and Jackson was 4 lbs 6 oz (80%tile). Clayton's is probably off since he was in a weird position and the tech had problems getting the measurements.
I only had a late term u/s with DD1 and they told me she was going to be over 9lbs - she was 8 lbs 12 oz, born at 40 wks 5 d. I had an unplanned c/s with her, but that had nothing to do with her size. I'm only 5'0", so I'm petite as well. Its not really your size that matters, but the shape of your pelvis and the opening of it (where the baby needs to drop down through.
On Monday, baby was 3ibs 1 oz (29 w 5 d)
