I loved reading all your birth stories, so this is my turn to write one.I?m a FTM.
Willow Claire
Born 1/9/12 , 8.74 lbs/21.25?
40 weeks 6 days
I was scheduled for an induction on Sunday (1/8) night. I was dilated 3cm, effaced 80% for weeks, but I did not make any progress so my doctor decided to induce me.
I showed up at the hospital Sunday night.I was hooked on IV and antibiotics right away, the pitocin was started around midnight. It was a low dose that was increased gradually.I did not have painful contractions from at the time.By 8 am I had made progress.Pitocin was upped, and 2 hrs later I hardly dilated to 4 cm. My doctor decided to break my water and she suggested, that I get the epidural before.
So I got did epi, which did not hurt one bit!It felt good to actually sit up for procedure.
As soon as the epi kicked in, the slowly added pitocin to almost the maximum.
My doctor said, that if I can?t get past 5cm within 2 hrs, it?d never happen so she will have to do a C-section.
1.5 hrs later I was 8-9 cm and started feeling the contractions through the epidural. They were becoming very strong, and it hurt really-really bad.I asked for more epidural, but I was told, that at this point they can only increase it a little bit. They made me switch positions to make sure, that fluid could get get around evenly, as it works toward gravity. It did help!So keep in mind, that it?s best to switch positons, so the epidural liquid could get everywhere and you won?t have one side of you in pain.
Soon I was 10 cm and felt the enormous pressure, felt like I needed to poop. The pressure was very intense. This was after 17 hrs of labor.I had not had anything to eat or drink and I was very week.
My doctor instructed me to start pushing, while the epidural was turned down.
I pushed and pushed for an hour, but I was so exhausted, that I felt, that I could not do it anymore.I tried to skip a contraction and breath it through, but it was impossible with all the pain and pressure. I thought I was going to die of exhaustion.
Finally my doctor decided to use the vacuum. Before I knew it, there were a whole bunch of doctors in the room in scrubs. When the next contraction came, I pushed?
She started coming out, and I was told to stop pushing, as the cord was wrapped around her TWICE! I screamed from the pain, then when it was OK to push again, I did it one last time.It felt like my whole body ripped into pieces?after a long journey, Willow Claire made it to this world. The rest was a bit of a blur, I was stitched up and in so much pain, it took me a few minutes to gain my conscious back.
When I finally got to meet my little girl, I wept like never before. She was so big, all the doctors took bets, what number the scale would show?
Recovery has been really hard- I could hardly get off the bed and I was not able walk. I was not prepared for this.
I have a beautiful daughter, she?s the love of my life. (I will try to post pics,I?m not sure how).
So this is my induction story?Good luck to all of you, mommies!
Re: She's here!My induction birth story (long!)
Congrats mama!!
8.74lbs is big but not "taking bets big"... Or at least that is what I think. But at 21" she is going to be a tall beauty I bet!!
Congratulations!
A big baby is my biggest fear. My husband was almost 11 lbs when he was born (11 lbs!!! After being in labor for over 30 hours, it ended with a c-section). But, his mom recovered, and went on to have two more babies. I'm sure you'll recover, too
