i have been pumping during the work day since iw ent back to work in sept. i nurse at home. my pumping output has significantly decreased. i used to get betwene 8-10 oz a day (i pump 3 times over an 8 horu period). now i am getting more like 5-6. she has had 10 oz a day (2 5oz bottles) at daycare. obviously i will go through my stock without replenishing it.
what can i do to increase my output?
i should add that she does not like solids - at all. so we are no where near solids replacing a nursing session.
i also posted this on bfing.
Re: how to increase supply?
Make sure you are drinking enough water.
Eat oatmeal every day.
Mother's Milk tea
Fenugreek
www.kellymom.com has good suggestions.

Definitely maintain water intake and pump more often and feed when you can instead of pumping (feeding is much more effective at stimulating supply).
BUT, if you need external help don't bother with any of the "herbal and natural" gunk out there including oatmeal and fenugeek. Studies have shown these to be no more effective than a placebo (and even a placebo has SOME effect).
There are 2 excellent drugs available on Rx that are very effective at increasing supply by stimulating the production of prolactin, the hormone required for BFing.
Domperidone is preferable, but needs to be prescribed off label in the US and is not very common.
Reglan is also proven to be effective and is readily available on Rx but you should take it with caution if you have a history of depression (ie limit the time you take it) because longer term use over several weeks is associated with higher PPD rates.?
morg nurses sometime between 1 am and 3 am, then at 6 am when we got to daycare. i pump at 8, 12, and 2. she nurses again around 4-5 when we get home, then again about 730 for bedtime. usually i either dreamfeed her at 10 (when i go to bed) or i pump.
i seriously dont think i could nurse/pump any more.
i should add i am down to one boob. my left side has shut down (about 4 mons ago)
Ask your Dr for an Rx for reglan or domperidone. Seriously. You will probably get the other breast back too.?
thanks mmml. i am going to call in the am. i have my annual pap next week, but i dont want to wait that long.
can you tell me if there any side effects from the rx?
Reglan carries a small risk of PPD but from my research it is really only a worry if you already have a history and you use it for an extended period. Most people only need it for a week or two if that. If you're on it for months then your risk is increased.
Domperidone doesn't have that risk.
I have never heard (or read) of any other side effects. Mayo Clinic website has stuff on both if I remember rightly. And the NYU Breastfeeding warmline will refer you too if you need to find a Dr who will prescribe domperidone.?
