Does this seem cheap?

I am the maid of honor in my sister's upcoming wedding and have begun to search out locations to hold her bridal shower. I found a really cute little chocolate/dessert shop that has a loft space above it to hold private parties. They offer several options including a package where you just do a dessert menu (an awesome one!) but they also have the typical lunch and dessert menu. Its BYOB, so we will do wine and some kind of martini Im sure but this place only allows for you to rent it out for a maximum of two hours. Im thinking holding the shower after lunch (2ish) and just doing deserts and drinks would be a better option bc of the time constraint. Would this look cheap???

  • Nope! Sounds like a nice and welcomed change from the typical shower!

  • Nope.

Wine and chocolate is a winner in my book.

    Sounds awesome. Nice find.

  • I think it sounds really cute and fun! I'd love a shower like that, I kinda hate it when they drag on all afternoon. Have fun!

  • It does sound nice.  My only concern would be the 2 hr time constraint.  It seems like showers usually run longer than that.  But on the flip side, maybe it will just help you keep things moving.  :)

  • Nope! I think this sounds awesome! Personally, I HATE when showers lag on forever. I'd rather just eat a tiny bit, hang out and do the presents. I went to a shower once that was going on for about 4 hours...too damn long.

  • I will preface this by saying that I have had 4 baby showers with the same theme, make your own ice cream Sundays.  They were all great fun, easy to do, and included wine and held at 2:00pm.  Sounds great to me.
  • IMO no. My MOH threw me a bridal tea. Probably about 2 hours, complete with tea services and finger sandwiches. Perfect perfect perfect

  • Is it only desserts/sweets? Could they add something savory for the non-sweet eaters? I don't think it sounds cheap at all, sounds fun. I might do it around 3pm, so it would be similar to tea time and everybody would have eaten by then.
  • I think you need to guage it by the guests who would be invited and the bride for what their opinion would be for what their opinion would be on it.  If it's within the social norm for your family, then stick with that part of things.  I also agree with the PP in that 2-hours might be rather restrictive for timing..

IMO, if it was an event for my family, yes, you'd be cheaping out because people in my family usually like to have some savory option even if it's simply finger sandwiches regardless of the time of the event as well as have plenty of time to just relax and chat it up.  While you wouldn't be obligated by a 2:00 start time to provide a full/filling meal, something that fits the profile of an afternoon snack/afternoon tea would be something to consider as an option just so all your bases are covered.  That said, anyone with little kids will likely love you because it's not in the middle of afternoon naps! (which is also something to consider whether or not there will be any kids in attendance)...

  • That actually sounds really awesome!  And the two hour time limit is perfect so it isn't one of those showers that lasts FOR-EV-ER.  Really unique and perfect.

  • Absolutely not!  I have been to my fair share of bridal and baby showers - most have had chit chat, lunch, chit-chat, do a game or two, chit-chat, open gifts, etc.  Seems to drag on forever!  Chocolate, wine and 2 hours would be awesome:)

  • I don't think it seems cheap at all.  I think it's a great idea!  I know some PP's have said they don't like showers to drag on, but I think 2 hours does seem really short.  I guess it'll depend on how many people will be there too.  If there are more people, it will take longer to get everyone organized and to open presents.

  • That sounds wonderful!!! I would have loved something like this!
  • I think that's a cute idea. However, most showers I have attended have served more of a meal, so maybe that needs to be added subtly on the invite, that the party is desserts and wine only. That way people don't show up on an empty stomach and start drinking alcohol.

Could be a disaster! Stick out tongue
