xp: anyone use a manual pump

I am thinking of getting a manual pump for when I am out and about. Do they really work?

Anyone have a recommendation? I have a madela symphony at home, so I was thinking that the madela one would best.

  • They do work but they take a lot of effort. Then again I have a friend who manually expressed (ie she used her hand and no pump at all) for the last 3 months her DC was breastfed and she was working part time.

I would get a medela just so the same bottles will fit with it as with your other pump.?

  • yeah - i agree - they do work but take a lot of effort.  i am working full-time and only using my manual pump (medela symphony - it works great for me).  if i had to do it all over again, i probably would get an automatic one, but i have only been working full time for 2 months, and will stop pumping within the next month.  overall though, it works and i have no complaints!
  • I bought a Medela Harmony (Single Manual) and it took soooooo long.  I ended up just manually expressing it with my hand whenever I needed to.
