Ok, I don't have this situation, but I have researched it thoroughly for us.
I cannot even fathom this, which is why we have no #2 yet. Right now half my take home pay, or 1/4 of our total income goes to child care. Yes, we would get a discount for having more than 1 at his center but the discount is off of the lower tuition only and then the newborn tuition is obviously more expensive than what we pay for a 2 yr old right now.
I would literally be working ONLY to pay for daycare (and taxes). Half of our combined take home pay would go to child care.
I don't have an insanely low paying job nor an insanely expensive daycare. It is sad.
Right now it's 15% of total take home, for 1. 2 would be 25% or so. The 25% would only be 2 yrs max if we get pg later this yr. Just curious what is normal!! The 25% is daunting but i remind myself it'd be temporary.
Well, we do 25% right now and it isn't killing us. I mean, it is the most expensive thing we pay for every month but we make do just fine. I am surprised yours would only go up 10% with a second child though?
Ours doubles. Goes down for one because of him being a year older soon and the multi-child discount but all of that savings is made up by the more expensive newborn tuition
He is still @ infant price, but my math is based on next class plus infant and 10% discount. He may be up to 3yo class which is cheaper...or tuition will increase, ha!!!
For 1, we pay 30% of my salary but it's only 12% of our total salary since dh makes more than me. J will be in preschool when #2 comes along so there will be expenses but less than twice what we are currently paying. So I'm guessing our total for 2 kids will be less than 20% of our total income.
2 kids is 20% of our total take home pay. We don't make a bunch of money, but our daycare is pretty inexpensive compared to what alot of people pay. I couldn't afford 2 in other daycares around here, and for sure not in a place like Raleigh. We just got lucky and found an awesome center in a rural area.
It's over half my take home pay, but that also includes my health insurance, etc. So it's still "worth it" for me to work.
