What is your bottle cleaning routine? (bonus if you use dr. browns)

Re: What is your bottle cleaning routine? (bonus if you use dr. browns)

  • I use Dr. Brown's bottles and I usually wash them after every two feedings.  I pump every time I feed LO and have two sets of pump parts so once those are used I have to wash them, so I wash the dirtied bottles at the same time.  I soak them in hot soapy water and then use a bottle brush and the cleaning thing they provided to wash the extra parts.  Then I put them to air dry on a bottle rack.

I never use the dishwasher but should start because it would probably save a lot of time.   I feel like I am CONSTANTLY washing bottles and pump parts!

  • We use Dr. Browns and have a good collection of them.  I clean them in the dishwasher.  We have enough bottles to cover the whole day of feeding without needing to clean bottles, so usually we just put them in the dishwasher after they have been used and when we're down to the last one we run the dishwasher.  I have the dishwasher baskets for all the little parts of the vent system/nipples/etc.  Our dishwasher has a top rack only option, so we typically just use that unless we have a bunch of other dishes (usually it's just whatever I used during the day so that fits in the top rack with the bottles.

  • We use Playtex Drop-Ins, love the convenience of the system! We wash the nipples and rings after every feeding with warm soapy water in the sink. We wash the nursers (bottle part) about once a day. We don't use the dishwasher ever and I only steam cleaned the nipples once, before the first use.

  • We have the Dr. Browns but have a lot of them because that's what DD used so I typically wash them once a day.  However, if I have to wash my pump parts (I have 2 sets) I will just throw everything bottles & pump parts in the sink and hand wash.  If the dishwasher is going to run at night, I'll throw them in there so really it depends on what else is being cleaned at the time.

  • We have Dr. Browns.  I was handwashing but I'm over that.  I run the dishwasher twice a day on energy save (since it's not full).  I also have the munchkin basket for the parts.  It has "straw holders" that I use for the internal blue part.  I also use the air dry setting on the dishwasher because one time the blue part fell down and melted during the drying.  Opps!

  • Most of the time I wash them with warm water and then sanitize them using Medela Quick Steam Microwavable Bags. Occasionally, I will wash them with soap and water first, or run them through the dishwasher.

  • We use Dr. Brown's and we hand wash the bottles when they are all dirty (we have 8).  We also rinse them out after each feeding.  I learned that with DD #1 because if they sit for too long, they get gross build up in the yellow plastic part as well as on the bottom of the bottle.  I use the little bottle brush that came with the bottle to scrub the crevices of the yellow part.

  • Just to be clear - lots of washing but little/no sterilizing every day :)

  • We use Dr. Browns and it's about the same as the everyone else. I take them apart and run hot water over them as soon as DS is finished eating. I scrub all the little pieces with the brush, and hot soapy water. Also a few times a week I run them through the dishwasher. Lately I've been boiling the nipples and pacis daily because DS has thrush.
