mhaas - and other helmet baby moms!

How's it going?  Howmuch longer do you have?  Do you think it is helping?  Did you decorate it?  How are other people responding to it?

DS has only had the helmet for about 2 weeks.  I swear I can already see a difference (but maybe it is wishful thinking) and the specialist said his head grew 2mm in 6 days so maybe it did change a little.  He doesn't seem to care about it at all, unless he is really cranky.  I think it did interupt his sleep at first, but not he is over that.  His skin on his legs and arms are extra dry because we give him a bath everyday to wash his head because he does sweat a little more than usual.  I put some "boyish" stickers and his name on it - but I think I'll chage the stickers soon.

  • It is good to hear that everything is going well with your helmet experience!

My son has taken to the helmet. I have seen a lot of improvement with my own eyes...on the technical side I have no idea. We go back for our first follow up appointment on the 23rd. I wish it was sooner, but oh well. My doctor never gave me a timeline for how long he would have to wear the helmet, but he had a pretty severe case.

The only time my son really seems to get upset about the helmet is when we are putting it back on after his 20minute helmet free play time. We have not decorated the helmet, but every once in a while  throw a sticker on it. It had a lot of bows stuck to it on Christmas!

Overall I have to say I love the helmet Liam is crawling everywhere and starting to pull up on everything. Every time he takes a tumble the helmet really helps to soften the blow. It was a godsend at my mom's house because it is all tile and hardwood floors.

Here is a picture of my happy helmet baby!

  • Hey there mamas - I guess I just have a question.  What is the helmet doing? I haven't ever been in a situation to need one (that I know of being a FTM)!

    Thanks for the information!

  • It is funny that you talk about it cushioning his fall. My little guy had his helmet on for just over 2 months. We happened to put it on while he was having a growth spurt (unknown to us) and so things moved pretty quickly. He is starting to pull himself up on things now and all I can think about is I wish I had that darn helmet on!! :)

Good luck ladies! They are some cute kids when the helmet is on (ok and when the helmet is off as well!)

  • So far the helmet has been one big nightmare.  He keeps getting pressure spots and he hasnt really been able to wear it consistently.  He is almost 9 months, and its getting to late.  I am beyond frustrated.
