Sorry this is kinda long, but couldn't resist sharing with everyone!
On Tuesday, I had my regular scheduled OB appointment. Everything went well, still 2cm and 60%, but was sent to L&D for decreased movement to have an AFI and NST. The AFI showed 7cm of fluid, which concerned them and schedule another AFI for yesterday (Wednesday). Once I was about to leave, I had a emotional breakdown to one of the nurses, about how S/O is across the country for training and then leaves to go out of the country till the 25th, my due date was the 23rd. I had tried everything to try to get her to come out before he left overseas. Walking, sex, yoga ball, EPO, nipple stimulation, but nothing seemed to work. The nurse quietly recommended that I try castor oil. I was weary at first after previously reading posts about the negative effects and that it not working and just being stuck with terrible diarrhea. But she insisted that it works, so I figured I might as well try one last time.
After getting home I drank 2oz at around 3:30, and another 2oz at 4:30, and let me tell you once it got to 8:30, I was officially discouraged that nothing was going to happen, I hadn't even gone to the bathroom! I had one little speedy incident of having to run to the bathroom around 9, and started feeling contractions around 7 minutes apart. I laid in bed, drinking water in attempts to stay hydrated in case the CO actually did start to kick in. My contractions stayed at 7 minutes apart until 10:30, although not getting stronger, I decided to call L&D and see what to do.
They told me to come in and once I got my mom up and ready to drive me my contrax moved to 4-5 minutes apart, still not painful but irritating. We arrived to the hospital and they hooked me up to the monitors for awhile. Contractions were still coming and LO's heart looked great, but since I failed to dialate, they decided to send me home around 1130 pm. After checking with the doctor, they decided to do my second AFI there instead of having me come back in the morning. This time, they only got around 4cm. The nurses called the doctor again and came back and said we would be induced at 7am that coming morning!
Well now I was in panic mode. S/O had just missed the red eye flight and the next flight was 6 hours later. Talk about having a hormonal breakdown, I was convinced he wasn't going to make it. In all of the shuffle, I realized I had to go to the bathroom and I mean HAD TO GO. I tried to get up and get to the toilet but couldn't get the monitors unplugged, and let me tell you, what happened next was not pretty.
Throughout getting prepared for labor, I was always terrified of pooping on the table. NEVER did I think that I would have explosive diarrhea ALL OVER the floor in triage. Extreme TMI, I know, but when I did eventually make it to the toilet, my water broke! After taking a shower, and then being completely mortified that I just pooped on the floor, S/O FINALLY got a flight out and would be arriving around 12pm the next morning. It was time to get some sleep.
The next section was a blur of a morning, started pitocin at 7:30am, it definitely made my contractions stronger but they were still manageable. Labored until about 11:30, and at this point my contrax were about 2 minutes apart and painful. I really wanted to stay away from pain meds until S/O got there so they decided they would check me and see where we were at and how much longer I could stand the pain. 3cm 90%, and there was still a small sack of water that had gotten trapped by LO's head, but they decided to wait to break it until S/O arrived. I scheduled to have my epidural, and what do you know as soon as the anesthesiologist walked in, so did S/O. THANK GOODNESS! The epidural was painful and only worked on my left side at first, but after getting an extra dose and laying on my right side, it fully numbed me from the waist down. What a great feeling! This was about 2pm, and the doctor came in to break the little sack and I was 4cm and still 90%.
I decided to take a nap, and what do you know, an hour later I woke up feeling like I had to poop. I told the nurse and she decided to check me and we were 9cm fully effaced and LO was at +2 station. After the grabbing the doc she checked me and LO was almost crowning, she had me do a practice push and LO's head almost popped out so she yelled for me to stop before LO just came out and no one was ready! After quickly prepping, we were ready to push!
I only pushed 8 times and LO came right out and I only needed one stitch! She is absolutely perfect and I couldn't ask for anything more. 7lbs, 8oz, 19 1/2 inches long, Catherine Rhys is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.I will still never get over pooping on the floor, but it was all worth it for my LO, and my labor experience was wonderful!
But would NEVER recommend CO to anyone! Those BM were way too serious and I would have gotten seriously dehydrated if I hadn't been hooked up to fluids in L&D. I will say that I do believe it did have a little jump start to my labor!
Re: castor oil, low amniotic fluid, embarrassment, induction...Catherine Rhys is here! LONG!
Oh my gosh, you poor thing! I would have been so embarrassed, too. But I am sure they've seen it all
Congrats on your little girl and I am so happy your SO was able to make it in time!
