Has anyone tried the First Response Early Result test? It says that it can detect pregnancy up to 6 days before your missed period and I was just curious to see what other's experiences have been with it.
We've been TTC for 1 cycle now and I'm experiencing some symptoms, (bloating, gas, minor fatigue, weird pains in stomach, slight nausea, weird dreams, hieghtened sense of smell, etc) but I'm not sure if it's all in my head cause I'm kinda obsessed with making a baby. AF isn't due until around the 21 so technically if this test works, I could try testing this Sunday!
Re: First Response Early Result Test - your experience?
Lots of us have used it. Just because it "can" detect pregnancy, doesn't mean it will. 6 days before your missed period would be anywhere from 5-8DPO, which doesn't really give the embryo enough time to implant. The embryo must be implanted before any HCG (the hormone detected in a pregnancy test) gets into your blood and urine.
It's best to wait to test until AF is late. Of course, if you don't chart your basal body temperature, you won't really know when you've ovulated, so don't really know when your AF is due.
The, "6 days before your missed period" is misleading. That is based on everyone ovulating 14 days before their period. Most don't.
For example, I get my period 11 days after ovulation. 6 days before my missed period would be 5 days after ovulation. There is no way to get a postive pregnancy test at 5 dpo, it is biologically impossible I believe.
I would highly suggest you not test until you are "late" for AF. All testing early will do is stress you out and discourage you. Especially when you are on your 1st cycle TTC!
Remember this:
HPT accuracy DPO
10 dpo : 35%
11 dpo : 51%
12 dpo : 62%
13 dpo : 68%
14 dpo : 74%
15 dpo : 80%
16 dpo : 88%
17 dpo : 92%
18 dpo : 99%
DON?T TEST EARLY!!!!
P.S. All the "symptoms" you think you are having could very well be AF symptoms. Now that you are TTC, you are more heightened to believe they are pregnancy symptoms. So, don't get your hopes up!

Also, not sure if you were on BCP before, but when I stopped taking BCP I got all kinds of pregnancy-like symptons. I talked to my dr about and she said it is very likely that was a result of stopping the pill and the levels of progesterone (I think that's the hormone she mentioned) changing in my body. It was awful! Particularly the nausea.
Bottom line - I wouldn't test either, as hard as it is to wait.
It is hard to wait. Just FYI-if you aren't sure of what day you ovulated (By charting and using OPKs), you won't know if you are truly 'late' or if you ovulated late, pushing back the date of your expected period.
To answer your original question, I used a FRER when I got pregnant in November of 2010 at 10DPO (days past ovulation) after getting positives on the internet cheapie tests.
This
My rec: listen to the others- don't test til your late. No sense in pissing away money (literally).
Ha! That made me laugh.
**siggy warning**
I got a positive on a FRER at 9DPO
