Migraines?

Anyone suffer with migraines?  I have suffered with these...oh for about 7 years! The great thing was when I was pregnant with DS they went away just like that. Although when I was around 5 weeks (like now) I had a bad migraine that lasted for 3 days. It's happening with this pregnancy too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  UGH. I just hope I have the strength to deal with it. The bad thing with my migraines is really they only go away with my medication-Imitrex.  There is NO OTHER meds that will help. And I can't sleep it off anymore. With DS they mysteriously disappeared after the 3 days and never came back till I was 3 weeks after having DS.  And they came back full force.  Just seeing if anyone else out there deals with these things.

Re: Migraines?

  • Thankfully, no.  Try to get more water and rest as much as you can, hopefully it goes away soon.  Stay off the computer - the screen can't be good for your migraine.

  • You know I found that coffee is really what keeps my migraines at bay. I figured this out after I had DS and spent 500 bucks on acupuncture which didn't work! I breastfed for a year so I didn't want to keep loading up on my medication either. One day I realized if I drank 2 cups of coffee a day I could get through with only having maybe 2-3 migraines a month--compared to 1 to 2 a week!!!!!

So yes, I'm still doing 1 cup of coffee just like your 1 can of coke. And I'm calling the Dr. today to see if there's anything else I can do. Otherwise, I'm hoping it'll go away and won't come back until after delivery :)

  • I do too! I normally take inderol as a preventative measure but can't take it while pregnant. I haven't had one yet but I'm scared what will happen when I do.
  • Mine stopped after I had DD, and seem to be coming back full force as of 5w. My OB prescribed me Fioricet, I just have been too afraid to take it. I hope your migraine gets better!

  • I am experiencing the same thing. I take imitrex as well. When I was pregnant with DS they totally went away (which was great!). Now, with this pregnancy, I have really been struggling. I just talked with my OB and she prescribed me a beta blocker. People usually take this med to control high blood pressure, but I guess it helps with migranes as well. She also said that they prescribe vicodin to help as well (which was a complete shock to me).

  • I have also struggled with migraines (and another 2nd primary-type headache) over the last 7 years. I have taken a few different triptans, and know it is generally not taken during pregnancy. My neurologist informed me that once I am further along, I will have to weigh out how bad the pain is and how much it is stressing the body/ baby. He referred me to "The Sumatriptan/Naratriptan/Treximet Pregnancy Registry" - there have been studies done (sumatriptan is imitrex). I plan on bringing it up to my ob *just in case*!

I know fioricet/ fiorinal is a stronger opiate/barbituate med, and only under lots of pain would I consider it, but it is considered safe during pregnancy (I am not a med prof., this is what I have read). I think it is pretty silly that ibuprofin isn't ok, but fioricet is. Stick out tongue

I am sticking with keeping hydrated, a morning cup o coffee, and stretching the neck muscles often. I know I can have a jolt of coffee and tylenol and see how it goes when I get a headache. Ice and a hot shower alternated helped me the other day too. :)
