I love how even though it's a fairly large school, it feels like a small, intimate family. We got that vibe right off the bat. The teachers and administrators know all the kids' names, even if they're not in their class because they all assist with drop off and pick up.
The parents are kept in the loop about what the kids are learning in class and they have occasional focus groups for the parents to talk about anything parenting related. They'll take common issues and try to get guest speakers in to address them. Our focus group in the fall was right around the time that the whole Penn State child abuse stuff happened, so a lot of parents were talking about that. In a few weeks, they're having someone come to host a lecture about keeping kids safe in today's world.
The teachers are all very experienced with an average tenure of 20 years. They have seen everything and they totally know what they're doing. Within a few weeks, DS's teacher had him pretty much figure out. He is VERY shy, but at the same time, extremely strong willed. So he would pretty much refuse to do certain things, without saying one single word for the first few months. She recognized that...never pushed him, but saw that he enjoyed music and got him involved in class through the music sessions.
What we love the most about our daughter's school is that she is literally receiving a world-class education. She attends an international school and is learning 3 languages--Spanish, French, and Chinese. All of the teachers are certified teachers from different countries, France, Belgium, Spain, Mexico, Taiwan, etc. She (along with her classmates) will be fully fluent by age 6.
We chose the school because we love to travel. We've been blessed enough to take a summer vacation out of the US every year since we've been married and thought it would be a perfect way for our daughter to see the world she's been "talking" about. (Plus, it'd be cool to have someone with us who actually speaks the language should we become lost...which has happened; LOL!)
I love the class size and teacher ratio. They max out at 30 kids and have 4 main teachers and 1 parent in class every day. They break off into small groups for snack, circle time and crafts and come together for out door time. The classroom is amazing with different stations set up for reading, pretend, crafts, hands on etc.
I chose the school because it was a good price for a private preschool that was somewhat Christian based. We pay $195 a month and around here that is cheap. The school is amazing and the teachers are so personable! I visited 3 preschools and this was my favorite.
The first time I walked in to our preschool I wanted to cry (but I am completely sappy when it comes to my kids). It has such a warm and welcoming feel and is so child focused. The directors and staff really "get" preschoolers and are concerned about their development - emotional, social, learning, etc.
I visited a couple of other schools but this one just felt right for us. I was so excited when the twins got spots in the 3 year old program. I am equally excited for #3 to start next year!
My twins are 5! My baby is 3!
DS#2 - Allergic to Cashew, Pistachio, Kiwi
DS#3 - Allergic to Milk, Egg, Peanut, Tree Nuts and Sesame
I love that it's small but not too small. The class sizes are about 8 kids to 1 teacher. They have a lot of activities and performances. They are very active in the community. I love my DD's teacher and the director is amazing. All the teachers are sweet and I feel like I can talk to any of them about DD and they would know who she is. That makes me happy!
Chose this school because it was recommended (even specific teachers) by several friends.
With our first year of public pre-school I loved the student to teacher ratio. Chose that one because it's our neighborhood school and where he'll be going all of elementary.
Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
The family feel of it, low teacher turn over, the way all the teachers know most all the kids. The fact that they are outside alot and have an outside covered area with picnic tables. We live in FL and I believe in taking full advantage of the mostly nice weather.
Warm, welcoming feeling, very child centered, also centered around learning through play, bright, warm, cheerful - a fun outdoor playground along with a "big room" full of riding toys so still plenty of room for kids to fun and play when it's cold outside - all around just a good fit for us!
Wheee!

Hands down their teachers.
