Baked ziti recipes

I'm expecting 50 people for DD's bday party next weekend and yesterday decided that I should make baked ziti instead of ordering pizza 'cause it'll be waaaay less expensive.

I've never made baked ziti before. I'm looking online for recipes but was wondering if anyone has one that they really like.

**It has to be meat/chicken/seafood free.** (Does anyone ever put seafood in baked ziti?)

Re: Baked ziti recipes

  • I usually boil up some ziti, toss them with sauce, then do a layer of noodles, layer of ricotta & mozz, layer of noodles, ricotta & mozz until I'm out of noodles or hit the top, then bake for like 30 mins covered with foil, remove the foil add some mozz and bake without the foil for another 15ish, until the cheese starts to brown.

I do make sure to put a little sauce on the bottom of the pan so it doesn't stick as much, but other than that you don't need to be extremely exact on anything.

  • I've never made it per se but I'm a huge fan of buying jarred sauce from an Italian grocery store nearby. They sell HUGE tubs of it for 10.99 and it's delicious. Way easier, quicker, and less messier than making my own sauce. And it's guaranteed to come out good!!
  • MrsLynny - good idea! Thanks for the tip!

Broc - so you make it more like lasagna? The way I tried it tonight was to mix everything together in a bowl, put it in a dish and then bake it. (It was ok but not enough cheese and the pasta was overcooked 'cause DH didn't take it out of the water.)

I'm a little worried about getting my act together in time for the party, but I think this way makes way more sense.

  • I boil the pasta then mix together a jar of spaghetti sauce, a jar of alfredo sauce, and a bad of shredded mozzarella cheese.  I put it in the pan and bake it at 350 for about 20 minutes.

  • Yeah, kinda like lasagna.  I just like some hunks of ricotta in mine, and when I mix it all together it's just creamy.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Like I said there's really no wrong way as long as you cook it through and don't burn the sh*t out of it... bethy's sounds good too.
