Success after IF

How much (guesstimate) did you pay for injectibles/IUI?

Our fertility coverage is kind of sucky so I'm trying to get myself prepared for when we go back to the RE in a few months. Obviously different plans/companies cover different amounts but just a ballpark estimate? We would do injectibles, IUI and all of the monitoring.

Re: How much (guesstimate) did you pay for injectibles/IUI?

  • Monitoring and the actual IUI was a copayment. - so $30/visit  The real cost was the meds - roughly $280 per 300 iu vial (no Rx med coverage) and I was using one a night from CD 3 to 11/12. But, I was a hard stim.

  • at my OB that specialized in IF (and FWIW,  "ritzy clinic") follie scans were about $175-200 each. Always had to have a doc "review" things and that was another $80-100. IUI was about $100 for the sperm prep/wash, and $200 for the insem. AND another $100 for the doc to walk in the room and whisper sweet nothings into my ute. lol.  Blood tests (E2 and hCg, about 4-6 total) about $45-60 each, more for "stat" results.

Meds for me were expensive, it took a ton to stim my old girls. A good ballpark is $450 per 450 units. (right? I think I have that right....) Take how many you'll inject a day, times how many days you stim... for me... $2-5K for gonal and meno. My PIO, estrace, prometrium, etc were always covered under something, just small RX copays for those.

Basically, just cut off an arm and leg and give it to them. That should get you thru the one round you'll need ;-)

  •      The only thing I would add is to check and see if your RE will let you get meds over seas.  They are much cheaper and would be the same meds you would take if you lived there, just a different name.  We used IVFmeds.com located in europe.  I was hard to stim, but we spent about 400-450 a month (but you have to buy a 2 month supply so you could have meds ready for the next cycle if it didn't work).  We used ovidrel to trigger release and another injection 1 week later to boost progesterone levels to help with possible implantation.  I purchased those from an overnight mail order pharmacy located in new york for 50 bucks a shot. The rest of my meds (pills) I reeived locally.

  • The actual insemination and all the monitoring was a flat fee of about $1580.

Then both the Clomid and Menopur were slightly covered by my insurance totaling $300. The prometrium and ovidrel trigger was another $140 in RX copayments.

So, all told (not including DS) Total is $2020.

  • I was lucky and had great IF coverage.

One cycle of meds (Gonal-F, trigger, and progesterone) costs me $160.

One cycle of RE visits (ultrasounds) costs me $75

And the insemination was completey covered!

Too bad the new year brought a change to my insurance  :(

  • I paid $50/vial of Bravelle. I'd go through probably 10 vials per cycle. We were lucky that the rest of the monitoring and care was covered and we only had to pay the $30 copay every visit and meds.

  • For my injectible iui cycles it averaged about 5000 for everything. 100% oop for everything and each cycle had to be paid up front before I could start. Thankfully if a service wasn't used (u/s b/w, etc) that money was put towards another cycle.

  • We were totally oop - I am a hard stimmer

    Femara was $5, Provera $10

    Bravella $350 for 5 vials x13days

HCG's $220 (that was for 3 vials, I over stimmed *2* to slow down- then Trigger)

$30 for visits (there were many), $130 Sperm Deposit, $200 for u/s's (I had alot), $240 for IUI

    Total-ish....$2500

We should all open up an RE office Stick out tongue

  • I've never done an all injectible IUI cycle.  The estimate my RE gave me was around $1,800 not including the meds.

Since a Femara IUI was only like $600 we did that first and then when it didn't work we tried Femara with a little bit of Follistim.  Since I wasn't on a ton of injectables she only had me come in for one ultrasound so the total price ended up being the same, $600, and then I had to pay for the meds and I think they were around $300.

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
