TTC after 35

CD3 B/W results-Estrogen too high-update

I had my CD3 bw yesterday and my estrogen was 126 which they said was high for CD3.  Had to go in this morning to get an u/s and b/w to make sure there is no cyst.

There isn't a cyst, but there IS a 16mm follicle on my right side. On day 4? WTF?
There were about 9 unmeasurable follicles between the right and the left.  It's just so strange. I have never had a follicle that size. I couldn't get a sense from the doctor if it was good or bad or odd.  He isn't as forthcoming as some of the other docs are, so I really don't know what to make of it.

I'll hound my nurse when I get the results call later, but just wondered if anyone else thinks this is strange.

It may mean nothing, but at this point it is getting difficult for me to take any result that looks out of the ordinary and remain calm about it.

Update: I just heard back that it acutally IS a cyst and I have to do a shot of Ovidrel tonight to purge it out of there, go back in 5 days and then start estradiol at that time.  Another day another damn delay.

I think the doctor had no idea where I was in my cycle and was just saying follicle because he didn't know what he was talking about. Annoying.

TTC since 3/2010. Me 41, DH-49. After 3 years, 6 IUIs and several IVFs we have finally have our beautiful baby girl, born on 11/7/13.

Re: CD3 B/W results-Estrogen too high-update

  • This happened to me last cycle, and my estrogen was back within "normal" range this cycle. My NP said that it's normal for someone my age to have a follicle starting to develop already, and that is what is causing the excess estrogen. 16mm does seem really big though for CD 4.

One thing you might ask is how do they know it's not a cyst? My understanding is that a cyst and a follicle look exactly the same on an u/s. (A follicle is essentially a cyst with an egg in it).  Also ask what their estrogen cutoff is. At my clinic it's 100, so by those standards your levels aren't that high.

This must be so frustrating, especially coming off a break, so I can't give you the "silver lining" of a break cycle pep talk. Hang in there and let us know what your nurse says.

Well, I am glad you at least have an explanation. Delays are maddening though. Does this mean you can go ahead and cycle this month?

  • The plan is to start the estradiol in 5 days if b/w is fine and then do that until next cycle and start with the meds then. So basically I just got my period, I'll get it again in 2 weeks after using the ovidrel, and then, I'll get it ONE MORE TIME before I can start my injections. Not as long as waiting 2 months but it seems like forever.

I know exactly what you mean. I know I'm not ready to stop trying, because I want a baby so badly, but it's taking a lot of effort to get there. I hope I have some energy left to actually be pregnant and then be a parent!

Ugh, that's so annoying, this is why I have taken to wearing almost nothing but black pants for the last several months as I can never predict how AF is going to go.

  • The whole cyst vs. follie thing is frustrating as hell to me.  I think it's caused me some undue heartache and major misunderstanding of my situation in the past.

For you  I am glad he figured out what it was and I just want to say that I am really sorry for the delay!!
