This is so totally random but I'm officially a short timer at work and have nothing to do and am bored. Entertain me if you will.
I'm trying to get my house (life) organized and am curious...I have one small linen closet that's an absolute DISASTER and overflowing. I'm trying to purge and can't decide how much to hang on to. I've found myself looking at Pinterest and pics of linen closets and just don't get how these closets are for real as they just seem so empty.
I know a lot of this is based on how many bedrooms you have and family
members, but curious as to whether there's a standard to maintain (i.e. 2
towels per person, etc.).
Here are my questions -
Do you have more than one linen closet?
How many sets of sheets do you have for each bed?
How many (full-size) towels do you have?
Do you keep seasonal items (beach towels/winter blankets) in your linen closet or another place? How do you store them?
What do you do with old towels? Throw? Donate? Cut up into rags?
Re: Totally NBR - Linen closet organization
Do you have more than one linen closet? Special snowflake - We keep towels/etc in each bathroom under one of the sink cabinets, and sheets all consolidated in 1 dresser. We don't have much closet space in this house
How many sets of sheets do you have for each bed? 2
How many (full-size) towels do you have? 4 for the master, somewhere around 6 in the guest bath. We are in a 3/2 house - so usually don't have more than 4 guests at a time.
Do you keep seasonal items (beach towels/winter blankets) in your linen closet or another place? How do you store them? Beach towels I store in the guest bath with the other towels - I think we only have 3. Winter blankets - I store in those space saver bags, inside a trunk in the living room.
What do you do with old towels? Throw? Donate? Cut up into - The ones that were in good shape, I donated. The ones that weren't - we use some in the garage, and/or to wipe the dogs paws, and the rest I just give to my cleaning person so she can do with them what she wants.
Well, I am not a great example b/c ours is a disaster too, but I have intentions to purge at least.
We have 2 linen closets - one in the hallway & one in the guest bath.
We have 4 beds (if you include the crib) & we have 2 sets of sheets for each. I keep the linens for each bed in a collapsable box (like one of those soft sided cubes from Target) with a label to indicate which bed it's for.
Towels? Gosh, we have a lot. Probably 12 or more.
I do keep seasonal stuff in the closet. The beach towels are all stuffed at the very top. The winter blanket is kept at the foot of the bed year-round and we just take it off the bed if it's too hot.
I do hang on to old towels. They either get made into rags or I put them in a rubbermaid box in the garage to use as - packing material when/if we move stuff, dog towels, car washing towels, etc.
Do you have more than one linen closet? No, just one
How many sets of sheets do you have for each bed? One. I never saw the need for more. I wash the sheets and remake the bed in the same day.
How many (full-size) towels do you have? Maybe 8?
Do you keep seasonal items (beach towels/winter blankets) in your linen closet or another place? How do you store them? Beach towels go in the linen closet. In the winters, the kids use them as bath towels. In the summer, I hang them on hooks in the laundry room. Throw blankets go in a cedar chest in the living room. We don't have separate winter blankets for the beds
What do you do with old towels? Throw? Donate? Cut up into rags? DH will use them in the garageDo you have more than one linen closet? Nope. Just one in the MBath
How many sets of sheets do you have for each bed? Two. I would like one more, though since they are different weights.
How many (full-size) towels do you have? Two sets (2 bath, 2 hand) for the master, one full set for DSS and one full set for the guest bath.
Do you keep seasonal items (beach towels/winter blankets) in your linen closet or another place? How do you store them? I have a spare closet that has a few blankets and the beach towels. There is a small wire shelf for the blankets/ duvets/ towels
What do you do with old towels? Throw? Donate? Cut up into rags? Good= donate. Crap= rags.
Not what you asked, but my linen closet looks something like this:
top shelf- curlers I use once/ year. Duvet box with king shams and other spare line parts I don't use.
then- shelf for DH's work linens- He has a few sets of rotating sheets and towels he takes to work.
then- my alt. towels and two sheet sets
then- bathroom stuff that doesn't fit under my sink bc I have too much f&b crap- nailpolish and spare stuff (like shower caps) in an Ikea organizer, bulk stuff we buy at Costco- deoderant, toothpaste, etc.
the bottom shelf is spare makeup bags and the shoulder massager things.
I have a few cleaning bottles on the floor, next to the scale.
Do you have more than one linen closet? Yes; 2.
How many sets of sheets do you have for each bed? 2-4, I think. I need to do an inventory and figure this out, actually!
How many (full-size) towels do you have? 12-ish? I think. We have 4 in our master bathroom, 4 "nice" ones in the guest bath and several more random ones in the guest bath too.
Do you keep seasonal items (beach towels/winter blankets) in your linen closet or another place? How do you store them? Beach towels are stored with the pool bag and sunscreens in the laundry room/side entrance. Winter blankets are stored mostly in a trunk in our master bed. Other blankets are in the guest room closet.
What do you do with old towels? Throw? Donate? Cut up into rags? It depends on how raggy they are... usually I'm using them as rags, but if they're too far gone then they go in the trash.
Do you have more than one linen closet? Nope, I have ZERO linen closets
I was a naive first time home buyer. We only have regular closets and then bathroom spaces.
How many sets of sheets do you have for each bed? 2 sets for our bed, 2 sets for guest bed, and 3 for DD's crib mattress.
How many (full-size) towels do you have? As many as will fit. When I end up with more than I have room for, I purge. Unforunately, that's about 7 full size towels. I wish it were 8, so I find myself cramming the extra one somewhere. This does not include towels for DD - her towels and sheets are in her closet.
Do you keep seasonal items (beach towels/winter blankets) in your linen closet or another place? How do you store them? I have a leather ottoman for blankets and throws, and I keep beach towels on a shelf in the garage. What doesn't fit, gets purged.
What do you do with old towels? Throw? Donate? Cut up into rags? Depends on the towel. If they're in good shape, they go to garage sale/Goodwill. If it's in super bad shape, it's either thrown out or cut up if it has good scrubbing qualities. Rags are kept in a box in the garage.
