So Smith has reflux, and neither Zantac or Prevacid have made much of a difference, so it's time to start eliminating foods from my diet. The LC suggested that we start with caffeine, alcohol, and dairy. So basically my 3 favorite things and my lifeblood. And to make me feel better, DH brought me home a giant iced latte. Not decaf. With milk. Bless his heart. I almost cried.
So anyway, I'm just curious if others who have dealt with reflux noticed any changes from eliminating foods from their diet. She said just to try it for a few weeks and then slowly reintroduce one at a time so we can see the culprit, if there is one.
Re: Eliminating Foods...
Emma was FF but none of the meds worked for her either. My pedi told me then that a lot of childen grow out of it and sure enough at 5 months it was like flipping a switch, no more refulx issues. I randomly remember that it was right at Valentines Day when I realized she seemed like a completely different child. Smith is a September baby like Emma, maybe he'll grow out of it on his own in just a couple of weeks like she did!
Other than that, I have no advice. I would pretty much shrivel up and die if I had to eliminate caffiene, alcohol and dairy from my diet. How long do you have to eliminate it before you can rule out that it doesn't make a difference? I could probably go a 3-5 days before I lost my mind. Good luck to you, I hope he feels better soon!
Mia had reflux and before we went on meds I had to cut out dairy, caffeine, and alcohol (all separately in order to see the effect). Fortunately, it wasn't diet related and the meds worked for us.
Do you think perhaps it could be a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance?
Also, I'm sorry
I'm so sorry. We went through this with Derek. I eliminated all dairy first, then caffeine and alcohol too next, then anything citric and acidic. Nothing worked, nothing. After 2 months and no success the pedi suggested we try formula and it seemed like no formula worked. We ended up on Similac Alimentum ready to feed. It was the only thing that didn't cause reflux.
I wish you the best of luck and hope you find something that works!
Cooper didn't have reflux but had bad gas...I had to give up carbonation, beans, broccoli, cauliflower, onion, and cabbage for the most part. It was like anything good was bad
but it really helped him so it was worth it.
Good luck!
